What is Kevin McCarthy trying to hide here?

 

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has proudly stated that he will block any attempt at establishing a January 6 commission to investigate the insurrection, claiming it would be “counterproductive.”   McCarthy clearly knows that any investigation of the insurrection will only reveal further damage caused by the GOP. Most recently, he was on Fox News trying to convince millions of Americans that Trump took immediate steps to quell the January 6 insurrection when he really did anything but.   Here's what actually happened: Trump delayed for hours and then put out a video telling the white supremacists storming the Capitol that they were “very special” and even loved.   We're not going to let the GOP rewrite history on this attack. The Justice Department has already charged nearly 400 insurrectionists and arrested 57 members of extremist groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers for breaching the Capitol. New evidence suggests that these groups had a strategic plan to overthrow the election results by seizing the Capitol.   This wasn't “a rally that got out of hand.” This was planned, and national security experts have warned that without a proper investigation, the violence we saw on January 6 will repeat itself.   We want to make it clear to Congress that the American people demand accountability -- no matter what McCarthy wants. That's why we're coming to our most engaged supporters.   The GOP has blocked this effort before.
