The NYC Board of Elections just announced that they'll take as long as early August to count all the votes cast in the Bronx during this past primary election — thus delaying any official calls on our race until then.
What's more, Eliot Engel and his team filed a lawsuit to allow him to challenge decisions about whether or not an absentee vote should count. Not only would this further delay that timeline, it could also wind up disenfranchising voters.
We're not going to stand by and let that happen, which is why we built a legal team to take on these challenges and make sure every vote is counted. But all of this is causing our legal fees to rise far beyond our originally projected costs.
Will you rush $5 to our campaign and help defray these costs so our team can ensure the integrity of this election?
While votes are still being counted, Jamaal holds a clear, decisive lead over Eliot Engel from the votes that have already been counted. Multiple news outlets confirmed the lead and have called the race in favor of Jamaal.
We believe in counting every single vote, and we also believe that there are better solutions than lawsuits to ensure this accountability.
Jamaal's win is decisive and statistically confirmed. He's ready to represent the people of New York's 16th District — in fact, he has already been using this time to work with the community. But, because of this lawsuit, that important work is being put on hold so Jamaal can work with our legal team to make sure everything is squared away.
Chip in $5 to our campaign and help us fund our legal team so we can be ready to address any issues and legal matters that might come up.
With NYC BOE official results more than a month away, we need all the support we can get in this waiting period:
