Big Plastic is capitalizing on pandemic-induced fear to maximize its profits.
The Plastic Industry Association is claiming that single-use plastic bags are safer than reusable bags. This is a shameless attempt by Big Plastic to continue to pollute our oceans and choke marine wildlife -- just to increase its profits. If Big Plastic truly had people’s best interest at heart, it wouldn’t exploit a pandemic to further its agenda.
The Association asked the Trump Administration to make a statement supporting single-use plastics over reusable materials. This would pressure cities and states that have banned plastic bags or charge small fees for plastic to roll back their restrictions. We need your help to stop that from happening!
Tell the Department of Health and Human Services: Don’t support single-use plastics!
Big Plastic is using fear-mongering tactics to get its products back in stores. The truth is reusable bags aren’t more likely to transmit the coronavirus than money or hands.
Single-use plastic bags may be contaminated during manufacturing, transporting, or handling. They are not a risk-free alternative. In addition to potentially spreading the coronavirus, these bags are proven to be harmful for the environment.
The Department of Health and Human Services has a duty to support information backed by science -- not big corporation propaganda. And the fact is our oceans and climate can’t survive much more plastic pollution.
Fight for our oceans: Resist single-use plastic ban reversals!
Every minute, the equivalent of an entire garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans. It’s choking sea turtles and driving blue whales closer to extinction. And plastic breaks down into micro-particles that never go away -- poisoning our aquatic systems forever.
We can’t let questionable science put our oceans and climate at risk. That’s why it’s up to you to stand up and demand single-use plastics are not integrated back into daily life.
States like Massachusetts and New Hampshire have already begun reversing single-use plastic bans. You must act fast. Big Plastic is lobbying hard to reverse the hard work of environmentalists like you. But together, we can fight back for our planet.
Standing with you,
Lukas Ross,
