Mitch McConnell and the GOP rigged Trump’s trial. 75% of Americans wanted witnesses, and they ran a sham trial that made a mockery of the Senate.
And it could cost them the Senate.
59% of Maine voters supported impeachment. Susan Collins didn’t care.
52% of Arizona voters supported impeachment. Martha McSally didn’t care.
56% of Colorado voters supported impeachment. Cory Gardner didn’t care.
New polls out of these states show just how vulnerable these senators are:
Sara Gideon leads Susan Collins by 1 point.
Mark Kelly leads Martha McSally by 7 points.
And Sabato’s Crystal Ball now rates Cory Gardner’s seat as “Leans Democrat” and Thom Tillis’s North Carolina seat as a “Toss-up” -- we can do this!
Democrats need 4 seats to flip the Senate in 2020 and ensure that Mitch McConnell has no more power in Washington. But we have to turn out the vote to make sure that happens.
In 2016, millions of Democrats stayed home or were intimidated from voting at all, and Donald Trump won Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania each by just 0.7% or less. And if Democrats fail to show up to vote in 2020, Trump will win again and Mitch McConnell will maintain control of the Senate. If that happens, kids in cages, the Muslim Ban, tax cuts for the wealthy and big corporations, withdrawing from the Paris climate accords, calling white supremacists “very fine people,” and calling his impeachment a “lynching?” That all will look tame.
McConnell will help Trump stack the Supreme Court with more anti-choice justices like Brett Kavanaugh. Trump will gut the EPA. They’ll destroy Obamacare and defund Medicare and Social Security in favor of more and more tax cuts for big corporations.
Our mission at When Democrats Turn Out is to prevent a repeat of the 2016 election by educating voters in key swing states. Our mission is to support every key Senate battleground race and beat Trump and McConnell in 2020.
Right now, we’re falling VERY short of our fundraising goals. If we can’t raise another $1,900 today, we’ll need to significantly scale back our strategy in 2020 -- right when we need to be scaling up.
