Tell Interior Secretary Burgum: Americans Across Party Lines Say Public Lands Are Not for Sale

PLEASE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK OUT AND PROTECT PUBLIC LANDS

AS OUR SHARED INHERITANCE!

America’s public lands belong to all of us -- and it’s time to take them back.

They are not line items on a ledger.

They are not commodities to be tallied and traded for short-term gain. When Interior Secretary Doug Burgum suggests treating public lands as part of the nation’s financial “balance sheet,” he reduces living ecosystems -- wildlife habitat, clean water sources, and irreplaceable landscapes -- into assets, as if they exist to be monetized rather than protected.

Public lands are held in trust for the American people, not managed as inventory to be liquidated. Their value cannot be captured in GDP or extracted through drilling and mining without consequence. Once degraded, these lands do not simply “recover” on a quarterly timeline, and the damage can last for generations.

The nomination of Steve Pearce to lead the Bureau of Land Management raises serious concerns, given his history of supporting efforts to sell or transfer federal lands out of public hands. At the same time, some in Congress are attempting to use the Congressional Review Act to roll back land management plans, potentially reopening protected areas to industrial use.

Send a direct message to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum: Our public lands are not entries on a ledger. They are our shared inheritance -- and they are not for sale.

SIGN & SEND

In contrast, the American people are clear: We want our public lands protected. The 2026 Conservation in the West Poll found that 84% of Western voters oppose weakening land, water, and wildlife protections, and 91% support keeping protections for national monuments. In today’s divided political climate, this is one of the rare issues that unifies Americans.

This overwhelming bipartisan support for conservation includes Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike. Americans want public lands to remain accessible, healthy, and intact.

But right now, Doug Burgum’s Department of the Interior is deciding whether these lands will remain protected or be opened up to exploitation. Unfortunately, the thinking seems to be rejecting the value of stewardship and increasing the extraction of resources. They are treating public lands not as a shared inheritance, but as a stockpile to be drawn down.

Taking back America’s public lands means rejecting the idea that they exist to serve a balance sheet. It means reaffirming that their purpose is to sustain life, preserve natural heritage, and remain open to all -- not parceled off to the highest bidder or degraded for short-term profit.

Tell Secretary Burgum to protect our public lands and stop reducing them to “balance sheet” items for good.

Thank you for standing up for the principle of defending protected lands.

The truth about Trump’s DOGE cuts

MIDDLEBORO REVIEW AND SO ON

While the Trump administration’s “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) claims to be cutting waste, the reality about what they are doing to our environment is far worse. They aren’t just trimming budgets: they are firing scientists and taking a wrecking ball to the agencies that keep us safe.

It recently came to light that DOGE effectively muzzled a critical drilling watchdog in Alaska (which couldn’t come at a worse time as Trump is expanding oil drilling in the Arctic Refuge!)

We need your help to fight back against these cuts to programs that protect our environment and keep us safe! Will you please rush in a donation right now to help our SEEC Members keep up the fight in Congress?

This news comes after a top federal safety regulator for offshore drilling in Alaska issued a dire warning: his office lacks the staffing to oversee even existing oil and gas operations.

This isn’t about efficiency. It’s about removing the "referees" so their allies in the fossil fuel industry can play without rules. By understaffing the watchdogs who keep our environment and communities safe, they are effectively green-lighting risky projects in one of the most fragile ecosystems on Earth — hoping no one notices the safety net has been cut.

We cannot let them trade our safety and the future of our climate for a "drill-at-all-costs" agenda. Our SEEC Members in Congress are fighting to hold this administration accountable and protect the dedicated public servants who are trying to blow the whistle.

But we can’t fight back without your support. Will you chip in $10 today to help us stand up to the DOGE wrecking ball and protect our public lands and waters?

Thank you for standing with us,

SEEC PAC

Thanks to your help in 2024, SEEC PAC re-elected over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night when Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 119th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future.

EARTHJUSTICE | BECAUSE THE EARTH NEEDS A GOOD LAWYER

The fight’s not over — here’s what’s next in our quest to protect our public lands

When Trump announced that he would be taking away this landmark conservation rule, environmental advocates — including Earthjustice actiontakers like you — spoke out.
Over 500,000 people across the country submitted public comments to the United States Forest Service on protecting the Roadless Rule — a landmark conservation policy that protects over 45 millions of acres from roadbuilding and clearcutting. Ninety-nine percent of those public comments opposed rescinding the rule.
This rule is one of the most critical policies that helps defend our forests. These letters sent a clear message to the Service: we need the Roadless Rule to protect our forests.
Participating in public comment periods is essential to the rulemaking process and can serve as a legal basis for taking the administration to court. Right now, the United States Forest Service is reviewing everything that came into the docket and will be making a final proposal on rescinding the Roadless Rule next spring.
Over 67,000 Earthjustice supporters sent in letters to the Service, telling them that the Service must leave the Roadless Rule intact. As the Trump administration tries to sell out our forests for corporate gain, we’ll fight together to protect them.
Let’s keep up the pressure and tell Congress to reject efforts to clear-cut our forests.
TAKE ACTION

Blaine Miller-McFeeley

Add your name to stop the largest single sale of national public lands in modern history

Climate Power

Senate Republicans’ budget bill mandates the largest single sale of national public lands in modern history to help pay for more tax cuts for billionaires.

That’s right, not only will this bill give Big Oil a $1 billion tax cut, slash clean energy investments, and raise our energy costs -- it also puts our public lands in the hands of the highest bidder.

ADD YOUR NAME: Take action now to stop the largest single sale of national public lands in modern history.

We need to make it clear to Congress that voters stand united in saying our public lands and our future are not to be sold. They belong to us -- all of us.

Add your name right now to send a loud, powerful message to lawmakers this week: Our public lands are not for sale. Voters overwhelmingly oppose these attacks on public lands and clean energy, and we’re demanding Congress vote “No” on the Republican budget bill.

Thank you for taking a stand,

Climate Power
