Ron Barber and Gabby Giffords

My name is Ron Barber, and in 2011, I almost died alongside Gabby Giffords.

January 8, 2011, was a brisk Saturday morning in Tucson, when Congresswoman Gabby Giffords arrived for her “Congress on your Corner” event. I was serving as her district director.

It was supposed to be just another Saturday. But in just 19.6 seconds, six people lay dying and 13 others were wounded when a gunman opened fire in front of a Safeway supermarket.

The gunman shot Gabby in the head — leaving her with a condition called aphasia. I was shot in the face and in the leg. I was fading and almost died on the ground. But I thought about my family and tried to keep my eyes open until we made it to the trauma center that saved my life.

Fifteen years later, Gabby and I still carry the scars of that terrible day. Some days are harder than others, but we can never stop fighting.

Gun violence is a uniquely American crisis. Gun deaths have increased dramatically in the past two decades, becoming more common than car crashes. Far too often, we see disturbing new reports of politically motivated gun violence when we turn on the TV.

We have the tools to fix this epidemic, but we need our elected leaders to have the courage to take on the gun lobby and defend our democracy.

That’s why I am reaching out personally,: The midterms elections are in less than 20 days. GIFFORDS is working to defeat extremist candidates and help gun safety champions win in the most competitive races. But Gabby needs our support to reach more voters.

Please, pitch in $10 to help Gabby continue the fight to end gun violence. GIFFORDS PAC is working to stand up against the gun lobby’s extreme politics, and every donation makes a difference.

If you've stored your info with ActBlue, we'll process your contribution instantly:

Thank you for fighting alongside Gabby when she needs it the most.

Please, take a second to read this...

GIFFORDS has been on the front lines to save lives from gun violence for more than a decade, but we can’t do it alone.

If everyone reading this donated just $17, we'd have the resources to pass commonsense gun safety legislation across the country. But not everyone gives — making it even more important for people who care and understand the stakes of our struggle to pitch in what they can.

If $17 seems worth it to you to change our gun laws in order to make our communities safer from gun violence, we're asking you to stand with Gabby Giffords and donate to GIFFORDS PAC today.

Giffords PAC was started to support elected officials who step up to fight the gun violence epidemic. Thank you for standing with Gabby and the Giffords team.

Democrats Are Crushing It. Here’s The Proof. We have 19 days to go until the midterm election. That’s it.
