Republicans Set A Trap. It Snapped Shut On Them.
Plus: a judge kills Trump’s voter suppression scheme twice, Delaware locks profiteers out of its hospitals, and four counties tell Big Tech no
We’re halfway through another week of Trump’s madness, so I’m glad you’re here for today’s edition—it’s full of good news.
Before you read the rest: smash the ❤️ like button and restack it. When you do, this drops into your followers’ feeds—people who otherwise wouldn’t see any of this today. That’s punching a hole straight through the regime’s version of reality.

FIVE MORE KEY SENATE RACES
The analysis I’d give a war room. A follow-up to my Senate analysis from July 20—for paid subscribers only.
Maine. Troy Jackson leads GOP Sen. Susan Collins 49-46 in the first poll since he was nominated four days ago. Collins has never faced a Democrat like him before—a fifth-generation logger who’s spent his career representing the exact voters she needs to win.
Jackson’s fundraising surged in the first day after he was nominated at the state party convention, totaling nearly $2 million—from about 30,000 donors. Both sides are acting like this race is up for grabs, and they’re right.
Michigan. The primary is six days away: El-Sayed vs. Stevens for the open seat Gary Peters is leaving. Mike Rogers will be the GOP nominee—the same candidate Sen. Elissa Slotkin beat by a third of a point in 2024. Republicans are spending money right now to help El-Sayed win the Democratic primary. That could backfire—let’s see what happens Tuesday.
Nebraska. I cover this more below as well. What I don’t say there: GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts put in $5.25 million of his own money—a sign that internal numbers don’t look good. And outside groups have been slow to invest in his campaign so far.
His opponent Dan Osborn’s average donor, by comparison, gave $40—and Osborn’s grassroots haul of $1.8 million from individual donors has already outraised Ricketts’s $470,000. Most recent polling has Osborn up by five in a state Trump won by twenty. Osborn has turned this into a real race, and Ricketts knows it. This could be the sleeper that decides the majority.
Iowa. Joni Ernst is retiring, so it’s now an open seat. GOP Rep. Ashley Hinson is running against Democratic Iowa State Rep. and former Paralympian Josh Turek. April polling had Democrats up two in a state Trump won by thirteen.
Democratic outside groups have already booked more than $30 million in fall TV—an unusually early investment for the Iowa Senate race. If the Hawkeye State goes blue, the wave is bigger than anyone’s saying.
Florida. A special election to fill the remainder of Marco Rubio’s term. Lt. Col. Alex Vindman—the man Trump fired for testifying against him—has outraised appointed GOP Sen. Ashley Moody. Twenty percent of Vindman’s in-state donors are Republicans and independents. Moody won as AG but has never run for Senate, and appointed senators historically underperform.
The Bottom Line: The path to the four seats Democrats need runs through these five states. It’s July and there are signs that every one of them is moving our way.
NEW MEXICO TELLS BIG TECH: NOT HERE
Sierra County voted Tuesday in a town called Truth or Consequences. Fitting name. The vote was unanimous: an 18-month moratorium on data centers—the fourth New Mexico county to do it this year.
Commissioner Sandy Jones didn’t mince words: “This wasn’t about saying ‘no’ to technology; it was about saying ‘yes’ to our water, our families and the Sierra County way of life.”
The fight is over Project Jupiter—Oracle and OpenAI’s massive data center under construction in southern New Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert. Communities found out what it would do to their water supply and showed up angry.
Santa Fe County acted too. Residents packed the chambers, and commissioners responded by lowering their trigger threshold—the point that forces full reviews and can halt new data center permits—from 100 megawatts down to just one. That’s about the electricity use of 1,000 homes.
The regime invited Big Tech in. Four New Mexico counties locked the gate.
JUDGE SHUTS DOWN VOTER SUPPRESSION—AGAIN
New Hampshire passed a law requiring voters to show a birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers just to register. In May, US District Judge Samantha Elliott—a Biden appointee—threw it out, calling it “an unjustifiable burden on the right to vote in violation of the First and Fourteenth Amendments.”
The state appealed and asked Elliott to pause her own ruling. On July 22, she refused.
That matters for November. New Hampshire’s law—the same proof-of-citizenship requirement Trump’s been pushing nationally as the SAVE America Act—is dead through the September primary and the general election.
At least 100 voters were turned away in 2025 municipal elections because they couldn’t produce the right papers. They’re protected now.
NEBRASKA IS NOW A SENATE RACE
Democrats alleged that Republicans planted a candidate—William Forbes—in the Nebraska Democratic primary to knock out Cindy Burbank, the actual Democrat in the race. After a GOP challenge, Burbank got pulled from the ballot by the Secretary of State, but the Nebraska Supreme Court reinstated her. She won the May 12 primary with 89% of the vote.
Then, on July 17, she walked into Secretary of State Bob Evnen’s office and filed to step aside. He confirmed he had no authority to stop her under Nebraska law.
She formally declined her nomination to clear the way for Dan Osborn—independent, Democratic-backed—who now goes one-on-one with GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts in November. In 2024, Osborn held a Republican Senate incumbent in Nebraska to a six-and-a-half-point race.
The GOP scheme to rig the primary just handed Republicans their toughest possible matchup.
DELAWARE JUST DID WHAT THE REGIME
WON’T
Gov. Matt Meyer sat down at the Henrietta Johnson Medical Center in Wilmington, Delaware on July 20 and signed three healthcare bills into law. A year earlier, private equity ownership gutted a hospital system just across the border in Pennsylvania—leaving hundreds of thousands of people with only two hospitals in their entire county.
Delaware decided not to wait for that to happen to them.
Three laws. One afternoon. Private equity is locked out of Delaware hospitals until 2028. Anyone earning under $47,000 a year gets free care. And starting next year, hospitals can’t charge insurers whatever they want anymore—prices come down for everyone.
The hospital industry threw everything at it, claiming the bills would kill 4,000 jobs. Sen. Ray Seigfried spent 25 years running a hospital system. His verdict on their scare campaign: “disgraceful.”
In Delaware, your hospital answers to you—not a hedge fund.
This is what it looks like when Democrats are given the opportunity to govern. I’m not sure what Republicans are doing.

Democrats show time and time again that when given the chance to govern, they do what they can to help as many people as possible. Republicans do the opposite. What do you call that?

It sure is! I went to football camp there a long long time ago!
Great example of the positive power of the states. I’m in Utah, an example of the harm a state can do. Ugh.
So sorry, but change can happen. I am originally from Montana and I understand the mindset that perceives the Dems as only being concerned about the “ big cities”. To some extent it is true. But there is good change happening in MT., though I am hoping for more. It can happen in Utah too. 🙂
“A constitution is not the act of a government, but of a people constituting a government; and government without a constitution, is power without a right.” - Thomas Paine
We have the power to change this.
"Democrats show time and time again that when given the chance to govern, they do what they can to help as many people as possible. Republicans do the opposite. What do you call that?" Considering the state of the nation, I call that a betrayal of democracy.
Check it out ! Obama in new ad with /for Josh Turek! 🏀

a) I hope Troy Jackson was vetted better than the last guy; b) The MI race is an establishment (AIPAC?) Dems vs. the DSA/AOC-Bernie wing thing, so it will be interesting to see what happens; c) I sure hope that if he wins Osborn is not another Fetterman; d) C'mon, Iowa, get yer sanity back and vote for Turek; e) Lt. Col. Vindman served with valor and integrity and is clearly the better candidate, but it's Floriduh, after all. . .
I call the GOP response to “governing” a scared, sociopathic, selfish, evil and sickening willingness to follow the psychopathic wishes of their evil, rapist, lying, criminal leader. I hold hope that the heart of true Americans will end the MAGAts’ rule. Seriously, look up the definitions of sociopathic and psychopathic personalities. It fits.
I call it a disgrace. A betrayal. A travesty. A revelation of Republican values.
“Democrats show time and time again that when given the chance to govern, they do what they can to help as many people as possible. Republicans do the opposite. What do you call that?”
TREASON
Came here to say this!
Each of these local and statewide victories is building the momentum for a big Democratic win in November, and an even bigger win for Democracy. Let's keep the foot on the gas, folks, the finish line is in sight.
🤑 Greed: the Republicans are not helping the people they serve. Instead , they funnel money 💸 from the hard working every day people to the elite billionaires. And the wealth is not trickling down!
The save act is dead Trump and republicans need to get over themselves and they all need to pay steep price for their alleged actions
I call it evil, republicans don’t care about the people, only themselves.
I have few complaints about Democrats in general. It’s time the party infrastructure at the top gets a reset!
More individual candidates are receiving contributions than the DNC - people understand!
That will force change!
We stopped contributing to the DNC when they blackballed organizations that opposed DEMOCRATIC INCUMBENTS and AFTER THEY SUPPORTED CORRUPT CUELLAR! (tRump owns him now!)
Don't abandon the PARTY simply because it needs to change. Like it or not, it's the only UMBRELLA for PROGRESSIVES!
Must say Scott that candidate coverage is thrilling!!! I am feeling the tingle of the election season!!!
Also must say that the Delaware Hospital Save makes me smile. When my aging father was in the hospital after hip surgery, his long time doctor who's office was a 2 minute walk away from the hospital was not allowed to visit my dad. This was the kind of man that doctor was, He and my dad liked each other and he was so good for my dad. But, the hospital had been taken over by an out of state company and the rules no longer allowed doctors who were not on staff to visit patients. I tell this story, to wake everyone up to who owns your hospital!
77 million people who voted Trump and Maga republicans in power in 2024and 9 million people who sat out 2024 election need to be reminded everyday how they actions cause the damage we all going through today and people like me and others was smart enough not to voted for this knew for years this was going to o happen
Given democrats no power was a fatal mistake now the consequences are so seriously healthcare gone cost of living high and convicted felon run our country to our demise.
Democrats show time and time again that when given the chance to govern, they do what they can to help as many people as possible. Republicans do the opposite. What do you call that? ICKY, SICK, DISGUSTING, RUDE, CRUEL, NOT WHAT PEOPLE NEED OR WANT.
All of that and a lot more
Whether it’s a little farming community of 300 or New York City, offering people opportunities to help themselves is what leads to success. The current GOP MAGA tribe cares nothing about it.
I know what you mean, I worked in healthcare 20 plus years. I felt if the insurance company would just pay for the test when ordered by the doctor, we wouldn't have to spend 3 hours of my time, the doctors time and their time jumping through stupid hoops, driving up the cost of the test.
DeSantis-appointed Senator Moody tries to fly under the radar except with her MAGA base.📣📣📣
“As Florida Attorney General, it was Moody and her office that approved the diversion of $10 million of taxpayer money to the Hope Florida Foundation. And the Attorney General did so without placing any of the safeguards or guardrails her office would typically require to make sure the money was properly spent.”
“These funds were intended to expand Medicaid for children in Florida, but instead they ended up in the bank accounts of a pair of political action committees, one of which was controlled by the governor and his chief of staff, James Uthmeier.”
https://www.cbsnews.com/miami/news/florida-senator-ashley-moody-faces-renewed-scrutiny-over-her-role-in-hope-florida-scandal/
The more people know about the SAVE Act, the more they oppose. Moody is up for election, unfortunately fraudster Rick Scott has 4 more years.
“But despite that reality, a handful of vocal right-wingers joined in on Lee’s calls.”
“I stand with @basedmikelee. I will vote to stay in session unless we have passed the SAVE America Act. The American people expect us to deliver. They deserve secure elections,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) chimed in.
“The Senate needs to stay in session until we can get the SAVE America Act to the floor and passed,” Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) agreed on X.

The last time REPUBLICANS controlled government, they behaved like MONSTERS if you recall.
They would hold HEARINGS, REPUBLICANS spoke first, then they SHUT OFF THE LIGHTS AND CAMERA!
They relegated DEMOCRATS to a basement room with overhead steam lines and no media access which was brought in...Surely SCOTT remembers...
REPUBLIICANS banned COMPROMISE from their vocabulary....
EXCEPT...these MAGA BOOBS are now down 2 REPUBLICAN SENATORS...
LINDSEY GRAHAM who is likely rotting in HELL for his betrayals and MITCH MCCONNELL who was previously being wheeled around in a wheelchair...one might speculate that he is likely suffering from POST POLIO SYNDROME and will continue to decline - a nasty, painful death....maybe karma for the damage he has caused - his own form on HELL!
REPUBLICANS can't get anything passed without DEMOCRATS regardless of their bluster.
They can babble about the SAVE ACT - FORGET IT!
REPUBLICANS need 60 VOTES in the SENATE!
WIPE YOUR TEARS!
There is a PENDING GOVERNMENT SHURDOWN in SEPTEMBER....do you really believe DEMOCRATS are going to support legislation packed with the REPUBLICAN WISH LIST?
REPUBLICANS and only REPUBLICANS gave the ICE GESTAPO THUGS money they didn't need to TERRORIZE COMMUNITIES! There better be DEMOCRATIC cuts and controls to reign in TRUMP'S GESTAPO! ICE GESTAPO THUGS continue to KILL innocent people and LIE about it, as well as the FOR PROFIT MAGGOTS and CONCEALED DEATHS in their concentration camps we euphemistically call 'DETENTION FACILITIES.'
WE NEED MORE DEMOCRATS ELECTED IN OFFICE TO STOP THIS INSANITY!
