TELL Congress: Trump's "grossly unqualified" pick for acting director of national intelligence has inspired even more opposition to the White House's spying powers. The Senate blocked yet another Trump attempt to extend his warrantless mass surveillance powers last week.¹ But administration officials, including Stephen Miller, are still trying to force an extension through Congress before this Friday's deadline.

After Trump appointed unqualified MAGA loyalist Bill Pulte as the acting director of national intelligence (DNI), a bipartisan group of lawmakers saw that renewing Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) posed even greater risks to Americans' privacy. Pulte has helped Trump weaponize the government against Trump's enemies.²

Congress is saying NO to appointing another dangerous MAGA partisan. Our lawmakers must also continue saying NO to Trump's dream surveillance bill.

Senator Mark Warner called Pulte "grossly unqualified" and said that tapping him to lead American intelligence agencies is a "disaster." Yet Warner and some other Democrats have worked with Republicans to pass FISA without critical privacy reforms.^3,4

A clear majority of Americans do not want the Trump administration looking through our personal data. If the White House and congressional leadership want to renew FISA, they must pass real privacy reforms, and close dangerous spying loopholes.

Congress will vote again THIS WEEK and we must ensure our lawmakers vote for privacy protections, not Trump's warrantless surveillance.
