A couple months ago, a very unwell man tried to attack Ilhan at a town hall meeting in Minneapolis. He rushed Ilhan’s podium while spraying her with liquid from a syringe.

Thankfully, Ilhan’s security apprehended the man almost immediately. He was charged at the federal level with assaulting and interfering with a U.S. officer, and at the local level with felony terroristic threats and fifth-degree assault. He is set to plead guilty.

This attack came as no surprise to those of us who have seen what Trump has said about Ilhan, and how the entire GOP has put a target on Ilhan’s back.

Trump has called Ilhan “garbage,” mocked her hijab, said she should “get the hell out” and “go back” to Somalia, and even joked about working with Somali officials to deport her. JD Vance has accused Ilhan of fraud and illegal acts without a shred of evidence. Republicans in Congress have circulated petitions calling for her to be denaturalized and removed from the country. They’ve opened sham investigations to try to intimidate her.

And here’s the thing: Congress does not provide Ilhan with a security team. That’s something our campaign has to pay for, and we are extremely thankful that our security team was there that day to protect her.

But this attack hasn’t deterred Trump's dangerous rhetoric even a bit. The targeting has continued, and Trump has even claimed that the attack was a setup by Ilhan herself.

That’s why we’re reaching out to you.  What we raise today will decide our budget going forward, and that budget includes our security team. We’re asking for your help to keep Ilhan on the campaign trail and in the fight against MAGA.
