Ruben was an American citizen, and on March 15, 2025, a federal agent fired multiple rounds through the driver's side window of his car on South Padre Island, Texas – and killed him. He was only 23 years old. |
At the time, local news covered it briefly and Texas DPS confirmed a death but wouldn't say which agency fired the shots. It took a FOIA request, a watchdog organization, and an investigative reporter at Newsweek to drag the truth into the open. The internal ICE report had been sitting there the whole time. How many Rubens are there? How many cases are sitting right now in a local news brief that ran once and vanished?
