Get yours here: Judge Rules Trump Can Be Held Liable For Jan 6, The Pope Rebukes The Regime By Name, and MAGA’s Church Weaponization Scheme Gets CrushedPlus, Veterans launch a massive new ad campaign against House RepublicansThe resistance is winning. This week proved it. Courts held the line, Democrats went on offense, and the world pushed back. The regime lost ground on every front and couldn’t stop any of it. Hit the ❤️ like button and re-stack this edition right now to make sure this news punches through Trump’s propaganda machine. The Dworkin Report has been documenting the fight against Trump—and helping lead it—for a decade. I helped uncover his Russia scandal, ran the first impeachment campaign, and have been in the fight since day one. We publish reader-funded journalism that has driven 672,000 contacts to Congress since the 2024 election. And we’ve done it all without ever running a single ad, bowing to corporate interests, or giving the regime an inch. Help us flip Congress by becoming a paid subscriber today: A BIG COURT RULING AGAINST TRUMPMore than five years after the attack on the Capitol, a federal judge ruled that Trump can be held personally liable for what happened that day. US District Judge Amit Mehta rejected Trump’s claim that his Ellipse speech and social media posts on Jan 6 were official presidential acts shielded by immunity. Mehta found the rally was “an unofficial act of an office-seeker,” clearly organized and attended largely by Trump’s campaign—not the White House. Mehta had rejected the garbage First Amendment argument once before, but Trump tried again anyway. Rep. Eric Swalwell, one of the Democratic lawmakers who filed the lawsuit and has pursued it for five years, didn’t hold back: “This case is for my colleagues, the brave Capitol Police officers, Americans everywhere, and the future of our nation. Those who incited and fueled the violence must be held responsible.” Attorney Joe Sellers explained what this means: “For the first time in our nation’s history, a court has determined—based on the evidentiary record—that a president may be held personally liable for harms caused while in office.” Trump tried to bury the case. It’s going to trial. NO ENDORSEMENTS FROM CHURCHESThe regime tried to give Tony Perkins a midterm weapon. He runs the Family Research Council, one of DC’s most powerful evangelical lobbying groups. Perkins had been organizing thousands of pastors for midterm endorsements—a coordinated operation that would have turned Sunday sermons into campaign rallies. The Johnson Amendment has kept churches out of elections since 1954. Trump’s DOJ tried to gut it by cutting a back-door deal with the IRS to stop enforcing it entirely. On Tuesday, a Trump-appointed federal judge threw the deal out. That's how bad this scheme was. TULSI GABBARD WAITS FOR HER EXITKristi Noem is out as DHS Secretary, Pam Bondi is out as Attorney General, and now Tulsi Gabbard may be next to hear Trump say: “You’re fired.” Gabbard has spent her time as Director of National Intelligence doing Trump’s dirty work. She fired officials who made assessments Trump didn’t like, purged career staff, and revoked security clearances of critics and former intelligence officials. Then it backfired. Gabbard drafted her March congressional testimony in coordination with the CIA. What she said undercut the regime’s rationale for the Iran war: Iran was not building a nuclear weapon. Trump publicly said she was wrong and then authorized strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites. Trump has privately asked cabinet officials whether he should replace her, furious that she protected her deputy Joe Kent—who resigned in protest, saying Iran posed no imminent threat. Gabbard knew the rules when she took the job she was never qualified for. Do Trump’s dirty work, or get fired. She did the dirty work. Ask Noem and Bondi how that ends. THE POPE SPEAKS OUTFour days before Palm Sunday—the Sunday before Easter—Pete Hegseth stood at a Pentagon worship service and prayed for “overwhelming violence of action against those who deserve no mercy.” He carried a Bible stamped with “Deus Vult,” which is Latin for “God wills it.” It was a Crusader battle cry. In the Pentagon. In 2026. Pope Leo XIV—the first American-born pope in history—responded. He said Christian leaders who start wars should go to confession and called for a ban on military airstrikes. Then he called out Trump by name, urging him to end the war. The Pope told 1.4 billion Catholics: “[God] does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.” MIDTERMS ARE COMINGCampaign season never ends in America, and right now that works in the resistance’s favor. Seven months out from the midterms, Democrats are going on offense, hitting Republicans hard on the Iran war. VoteVets Action Fund, a leading progressive Veterans organization, launched a $250,000 ad campaign this week going straight at Rep. Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin. It’s the first time this year the group has gone after a Republican Veteran member of Congress. In the ad, the Veteran on screen doesn’t mince words, calling out Van Orden directly: “We’re paying the cost every damn day for this war in Iran. He’s going for another $200 billion to spend on Iran. This is the same guy who backed big cuts to VA care for Vets. If we don’t have the money to take care of our Veterans, we damn sure can’t afford another war.” Van Orden won his last race by only three points over Rebecca Cooke, who’s running again. He’s just the opening act. The rest of the map is coming. The resistance runs on people who refuse to let the truth get buried. The Dworkin Report exists because readers fund it—not advertisers, not billionaires who want something in return. Scott I have two questions for you today. What do you think about Pope Leo XIV specifically calling out Trump? Thoughts on the continued ban on endorsements from churches? 🚨 TWO NEW CAMPAIGNS! 🚨 Defend voting rights! https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-push-back-on-trumps-attacks-on-our-voting-rights/ 🚨 Stop Trump regime from deporting people with Temporary Protected Status https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-stop-trump-regime-from-deporting-people-with-temporary-protected-status/ ALSO, THIS! 🚨Vote NO on SAVE Act: https://actionnetwork.org/letters/tell-congress-vote-no-on-the-save-act-to-protect-our-democracy/ JUST A FEW OF MANY INFORMED COMMENTS: My neighborhood church has a sign out front that says “We support the separation of church and hate.” Cannot say enough great things about Eric Swalwell. He really takes the fight to the bad guys. I think that if a pastor specifically says things like you can only vote Republican. They should immediately get their charity exemption revoked. Pope Leo is right, And separation of church and state is fundamental I love Pope Leo. What an incredible leader and man of God. And he speaks the truth. Period. Without fear. God bless him and let him lead the church for many decades to come. The word Grace appears 150-170 times in the Bible ( both Old and New testaments combined) and NO Our Heavenly Father God Almighty Himself Jesus Christ is Not answering kegsbreaths prayers for killing those who don't deserve mercy! ONLY One TRUE Judge and God Almighty and HE'S in charge of Grace and mercy!! And every single person needs Mercy including the clowns running our country! God bless your Easter weekend ❤️💖💯🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🙏🏾🙏🏻🙏🏿 The Pope is correct. All for the Johnson Amendment. We are on the right path! I applaud the Pope’s calling out the felon (I am not Catholic). Nor am I, but I have great respect for any leader who calls for mercy and love for ALL - human, nonhuman, the health of the whole, not little bits who want to rule and crush everything that is not white, (male), two-legged, Christian, blindly obedient to trump/maga and psychologically disturbed. Watch MAGA explode with anti Pope rhetoric again. Could take us back to the 1920s when Klan membership peaked and the radical fundamental evangelicals declared war on Al Smith for President and broadly on immigrants with the 1924 Act etc. Irish and Italian Catholics et al should remember their roots and what was only a few generations ago. Evangelical hatred of “others.” Scott, as a practicing Catholic, I find Pope Leo to be a breath of fresh air in this weary world. He is not afraid to speak out against the many abuses of the Trump administration. The Johnson amendment has not been enforced by this DOJ and I don’t anticipate that will change under Blanche. He’s worse than Pammy Jo. Therefore, we in the congregation must loudly complain to the authorities to stop this propagandizing. I am Jewish, but I adore this Pope. I grew up in a neighborhood with many churches and often went to church with friends. This Pope is what I was taught loving Jesus was about. I believe in the separation of Church and state, but the Church is supposed to speak for God - and I’m glad they are I was brought up Catholic but the year I moved to Tucson the diocese filed for bankruptcy so they wouldn’t have to pay victims of sexual abuse. I haven’t gone back to church since then. I am encouraged with this pope because he seems to get it and calling out trumpy by name may get some of the MAGAs to open their eyes. I respect him! Churches calling trumpy their savior is a big reason he was elected because “sometimes” very religious people don’t want to think for themselves so they are let into the hell we’re in now. Churches serve a purpose for many but they don’t belong in politics and they sure as hell shouldn’t be tax free! From the bits and pieces I've been hearing.....sounds to me like: I believe THAT bunker was the MAIN REASON for demolishing the East Wing. The Ballroom was a LAMB BRAIN excuse right from the beginning! Trump and his regime need a place to hide away once they have completely bankrupted one of the most beloved nations, wasted their DEFENSE DEPT and FIRED all those who KNEW what to do if we were attacked. Trump has ALREADY SOLD US OUT! If we don't take back OUR COUNTRY.....SOON.....AMERICA, as we know it, will be gone. Trump and his regime will protect themselves, and let the autocratic nations come.....kill.....and claim OUR LAND. Trump and his millionaire/billionaire regime will emerge from the BUNKER and celebrate with Putin, Kim, and all his autocratic FRIENDS, that will, from then on, OWN US. There will be no more America. PLEASE🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻SOMEBODY LISTEN TO US...... "BEFORE" it's too late!!!!!!!!!!! She is right — potus is Benedict Arnold on steroids. He’s been a Putin owned and operated asset for years and years. He and his cabinet must be taken into custody now, well before the November elections, because if they’re not stopped they will preside over an all-out coup d’état attempt — all part of Operation Epstein Frenzy. Release the god-damned files NOW. Happy to hear your additions.👍🏻😁 Trump and his regime are setting it all up with Putins help. Trump sends us to Iran.....Putin gives Iran our positions.....BA-BOOM.....1 downed. I am so happy our allies are not listening to him. He is setting them up for the autocratic countries to take them down also. Trump KNOWS he, his family and regime ARE GRASS.....and "We the People" have FULL intention to MOW THEM TO HELL DOWN. HE is cornered and his ONLY saviors are the AUTOCRATS. I CAN ONLY HOPE that a lot more ARE SEEING through every lie that slides from his slimy lips. Don't forget Netanyahoo, who needed Humpty tRumty to distract from his latest genocide in Lebanon. Thanks Scott. You bring good news and hope. I'm not Catholic, but I'm impressed by Pope Leo. A good man. Loved what he said to Hegseth who is a twisted, sick man high on his power for violence. A Bible should burn his hand. Jerk! Van Orden says he I'd concerned for his constituents and especially Vets. He's a liar. He spouts the regime party line. He votes against Vets interests. I will not vote for him and neither will many others. I don't think he'll be re-elected. He's "backed the wrong horse" but continues to do so. Another jerk! I don't believe in any gods, but if the Pope can change some hearts and minds, I'll believe in him. I respect the Pope for taking a stand on behalf of people around the world. I further respect the Cardinals who elected Pope Leo not only for his qualities and leadership but also as a counterbalance to Trump being in power. I have good friends whom I love that live in other countries. It breaks my heart that TT and his regime have so systematically destroyed our alliances with other countries who have been strong friends and allies. TT is so weakening the U.S. that I believe he's setting up the country for an invasion by one of his buddies, especially Putin. I doubt very much that TT really wants to be president for life. I'm glad that Pope Leo called him out. We need more people willing to publicize the truth as loudly as TT publicizes his lies. I read a comment yesterday against TT by France's Macron and while he was correct in what he said, it wasn't as forceful as it could have been. I also read an excellent Substack by Timothy Snyder about being ready for TT's next coup attempt. We must remain vigilant and continue to speak out against TT and his regime. Thank you, Scott, for all you do! Cinda I think churches can and should be used for voter registration drives, but they shouldn’t be allowed to endorse candidates or political parties and also claim a tax exemption. Speaking as a former three times weekly Hebrew school attendee, I just love Pope Leo. Any political choice is a moral choice, which, in turn, has everything to do with choosing the most compassionate alternative…and his voice is a necessary and clear reminder of that. Ban endorsement from the pulpit in any and all cases….and especially ban the tax exempt status for every single one of them. Build that wall between church and state higher and deeper! Especially the ones which do not set an example of true charitable work which they must vigorously PROVE via a watchdog agency. Some are obviously only in it to enrich the “pastors” who have a lavish lifestyle, huge mansions, Lamborghinis and private jets. Pope Leo is a good “sequel” to Pope Francis. They both had and have good sense and vision to see through the rhetoric and the evil and speak the opposite. The really sad part about the continued ban against churches taking political stances is that there even needs to be such a ban. Surely any religion, following whatever philosophy they do, would never consider using the pulpit for a politicians benefit, but would want to serve all their followers equally. Let's make sure to keep mentioning the veterans home loan debacle. People are getting foreclosed on. I’m curious - I am not in any denomination of any organized religion (though I was baptized Episcopalian). I don’t go to church. But when I did, I can’t recall any time that I heard a “pro-war”, “have no mercy” message coming from the pulpit. It would have deeply upset me!! I’d have stood up and left in the middle of the sermon! Are modern congregations that bloodthirsty and/or gullible to believe Jesus would condone such rhetoric? I cannot of course know what JC would do or say about anything (but I’ve read and tried to “get” the message from what I’ve read) — I’d hope any true messiah would not bring a message like this to the people. Embracing and accepting all life, being merciful and loving (NOT calling for bloody, vicious war and genocide): this is how I see my Higher Power. We forget that the Pope is the head of a country as well as the Roman Catholic church worldwide. As for the ban, give unto God what is His and to man what is his. The ban stands. I believe the ouster of Bondi and naming Blanche as acting attorney journey was just another ploy to delay the release of the Epstein files. How much more damage can he do in 30 days? |
