Saturday Afternoon News Updates – 1/31/26

Hi all! Thanks to everyone who read my morning message earlier. Our team has been hard at work all day to bring you the latest news. Let me fill you in on the latest with my afternoon recap.
I want to first highlight something that got a little lost in the chaotic news cycle of the past few days, and that’s the devastating economic data that was released on Friday. The data showed inflation climbing far faster than expected, and it’s probably yet another thing that Trump is trying to distract us from.
December producer price inflation came in at 3 percent, well above expectations of 2.7 percent. Core PPI inflation jumped to 3.3 percent, also higher than forecast, and now sits at its hottest level since July 2025. These are not abstract figures. Americans feel them every time they buy groceries, fill their gas tanks, or try to pay rent. Prices are up, wages are not keeping pace, and the stress is real.
Trump’s response was to publish an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal, claiming his economy is “fantastic.” The White House and official government accounts then promoted the piece as if it were an editorial endorsement written by the paper itself. But guess who the author was? If you guessed Donald Trump, you’d be correct. The Trump-authored op-ed (well, likely written by his handlers), filled with lies, was laundered through official channels to mislead the public.
In that op-ed, Trump insisted that his tariffs have “brought America back” and claimed the burden of those tariffs fell on foreign producers rather than American consumers. That assertion is flatly false. Tariffs function as a tax, and that tax is passed along to consumers. Americans know this because they are living it. Trump also claimed he inherited an economy “ravaged” by Joe Biden and that only twelve months into his second term inflation is “extremely low” and growth is “extraordinarily high.” None of that aligns with reality or with the data released just one day earlier.
Before Trump took office, economists across the political spectrum described the U.S. economy as the envy of the world. It was often called a Goldilocks economy: not too hot, not too cold, and remarkably resilient as the economy recovered from the collapse during the first Trump admininstration. Trump broke that. Now, instead of accountability, Americans are getting gaslit.

As inflation worsens, Trump has spent his Saturday morning rage-posting and inventing conspiracies. He falsely accused Minnesota of massive fraud involving a made-up $19 billion figure, despite the fact that federal prosecutors under the Biden administration were actively pursuing fraud cases there. Those prosecutors are gone now, pushed out in mass resignations as Trump weaponizes the Department of Justice and hands out pardons to fraudsters, drug traffickers, and political allies.
While Americans struggle, Trump’s focus remains on indulgence and spectacle. He continues to obsess over grandiose vanity projects in Washington, D.C., including a proposed 250-foot “Golden Arch” to mark America’s 250th anniversary. According to the Washington Post, the structure would tower over existing memorials, alter the skyline, and block views of the Lincoln Memorial. Experts warn it is wildly out of scale. Notably, it would be the second-largest triumphal arch ever designed, surpassed only by a massive arch Adolf Hitler planned for Berlin but never built.
At the same time, Trump administration officials have floated the idea of building a Grand Prix racetrack around the Capitol and constructing a 100,000-seat UFC stadium near the White House. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy even celebrated the racetrack idea online. This is cosplay, paid for by taxpayers who are asking for affordable health care, decent schools, and a government that does not manufacture daily crises. Not UFC fights at the White House.
The contrast in priorities could not be clearer. Americans want stability. They want to raise their families in peace. They do not want a president provoking global conflict, disrespecting allies, and turning the nation’s capital into a vanity playground.
Meanwhile, state-aligned media continues to normalize the abnormal. Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg appeared on television this morning and addressed the growing outrage over state violence and abuse of power. He spoke about the killing of Alex Pretti, the man who was shot repeatedly by federal agents, only for the government to label him a terrorist without evidence. Buttigieg noted that moments like this, as painful as they are, are galvanizing Americans across party lines who recognize that something has gone deeply wrong.
He also addressed the increasingly militarized conduct of immigration enforcement, describing scenes of heavily armed agents in tactical gear confronting families and even children. A five-year-old with a Spider-Man backpack should never be treated as a threat. Lawful residents and citizens should not be dragged from their homes or mistakenly deported. This is not making the country safer. It is eroding the rule of law.
Buttigieg further pressed the White House on Trump’s disturbing use of the pardon power, including pardons for major drug traffickers and corrupt foreign leaders. These are not acts of mercy. They are transactions, and the American people are right to demand answers about who benefits and why.
Hovering over all of this is the dark cloud of the Epstein files. Only about three million documents have been released so far, and there is strong reason to believe millions more are being withheld under dubious claims of privilege. What has emerged already is deeply disturbing. Names tied to power and wealth appear repeatedly, including Elon Musk and Trump himself. Communications show eagerness to attend Epstein’s events and visit his island, directly contradicting public denials.
One particularly troubling document, briefly removed by Trump’s DOJ after it went viral, contains allegations involving underage girls and Donald Trump. The document was later restored. It is not yet clear which allegations were corroborated or how they were handled, but victims deserve to be believed and taken seriously. Trump has a long history of attacking accusers and dismissing survivors. That context matters.
As of this afternoon, millions of Epstein-related documents remain hidden, the economy continues to slide, and Trump is focused on arches, racetracks, and propaganda.

My brother in law does. He admits that he chooses to not believe anything that puts tRump in a bad light, including the Epstein revelations . My good Christian brother in law never misses church and absolutely worships Donald tRump.

They severely limit their sources of information. They get the news that they want to get. This also produces an echo chamber when the news sources they trust are copying each other and relaying Trump’s message.
They have highly compartmentalized minds. When an unpleasant truth forces its way into their awareness, they do not try to integrate the other things they believe with it. Instead they put it in a box and isolate it from the rest of their thinking, which proceeds as if the truth never existed.
Put all this together and you get an idea how hard it will be to change their minds about Donald Trump.

While driving in traffic with a medical emergency, our local PBS STATION, WBUR broadcast several programs I am unable to locate, but have sent an inguerie to the station....
There was one program the recorded 911calls asking for assistance for ICE GESTAPO following people, causing accidents with damage to vehicles then falsely claiming the damage was the VICTIM'S fault.
911 advice is to 'escape' offering no police assistance.
Much of the 911 recordings are horrifying!
