BREAKING: Two People Shot by Immigration Agents in Portland, Mayor Calls on ICE to Leave
We have a major development this evening. Federal immigration agents shot two people in Portland Thursday afternoon in an incident now under investigation by the FBI, according to a now-deleted tweet from the FBI. I will continue to provide you with updates all night on this page, so please keep coming back to this article as I update it, if you want to support my work, subscribe today
According to KATU News, Portland police said they were dispatched around 2:20 p.m. to Southeast 102nd Avenue and Main Street after receiving reports of a shooting involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents. Officers quickly determined that federal agents were responsible and emphasized that Portland police were not involved in the shooting.
This is the moment that the Portland City Council learned of the shooting:
Minutes later, at approximately 2:24 p.m., police learned that a man who had been shot called for help near Northeast 146th Avenue and East Burnside Street. Responding officers located both a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Authorities again confirmed to KATU that federal agents were involved.
Both victims were transported to the hospital. Their conditions have not been publicly released, though the Mayor of Portland said Thursday afternoon that, to him knowledge, both individuals were still alive.
A witness at the scene told KATU he saw the wounded man pulled over in a vehicle and bleeding heavily.
The Portland shooting occurred just one day after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents fatally shot Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis, intensifying scrutiny of federal enforcement actions across the country.
In a sharply worded statement, Mayor Keith Wilson called the incident “deeply troubling” and warned of the consequences of militarized federal operations.
“We cannot sit by while constitutional protections erode and bloodshed mounts,” Wilson said. “Portland is not a training ground for militarized agents. The ‘full force’ threatened by the administration has deadly consequences.”
The mayor called on ICE to immediately halt all operations in Portland until a full and transparent investigation is completed.
U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon also weighed in, urging residents to remain peaceful amid growing tensions surrounding federal enforcement actions.
“Trump wants to generate riots,” Merkley wrote. “Don’t take the bait.”
Oregon Congresswoman Janelle Bynum released a statement saying “Don’t fuck with us.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
