Raskin Launches Investigation Into Trump’s Edited Interview, Habba Resigns In Disgrace, Virginia Could Deliver Dem House Gains, and LA Unmasks ICEThe resistance won’t back downIt’s only Tuesday, and I don’t know about you, but I’ve already had more than enough of the Trump regime for the week. So I sure am glad to have more great news for you today, to give you some relief from the chaos. Thanks for being here. Let’s jump in. VIRGINIA REDISTRICTINGVirginia Democrats are joining the redistricting fight, giving them the potential to gain two to four Congressional seats in the 2026 midterms. House Speaker Don Scott said: “We didn’t want to have to do this. This was done because Donald Trump told Texas, Indiana, North Carolina—our neighbors—to rig their elections.” GROUP FIGHTING RAIDSIn North Carolina, the group Siembra NC has been helping business owners and members of the community legally push back against Trump’s immigration abuses. They’ve provided business trainings, educational videos, and other resources to make sure people know their rights and how best to respond if they are confronted by federal agents. So when ICE moved into North Carolina cities, many folks were ready—as businesses throughout the state displayed signs that read “Private Area,” “Fourth Amendment Workplace,” and “There’s always room at our table, but to enter past this point, we’ll need to see a warrant signed by a judge.” UNMASKING ICEThe LA County Board of Supervisors is also pushing back against the regime’s unhinged immigration abuses. They recently approved an ordinance “to prohibit law enforcement, including ICE agents, from wearing masks or concealing their identities when conducting law enforcement business in unincorporated LA County.” That is around 65% of the county, with roughly one million residents. LA County Supervisor Janice Hahn stated: “This is how authoritarian secret police behave—not legitimate law enforcement in a democracy … We are declaring in no uncertain terms that in LA County, police do not hide their faces. That is our expectation, and this ordinance will now make it our law.” HABBA RESIGNSYesterday, Trump’s former personal lawyer Alina Habba resigned as acting US attorney for NJ. This comes after an appeals court ruled that she was unlawfully serving in the role. Good riddance—I hope she is shunned from public life forever. Dem Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim said in a joint statement that Habba’s resignation “brings to a close a troubling chapter and confirms what we have warned from the start. Habba’s installation through an irregular and unlawful process undermined the credibility of the office and eroded the public’s trust.” RASKIN OPENS NEW PROBEDem Rep. Jamie Raskin launched an investigation into what he’s calling “coerced editing” of a recent Trump interview on 60 Minutes. Raskin said: “The facts here are clear. [Trump] directed CBS to edit his own interview … and CBS complied with his requests and omitted its anchor’s questions about Trump’s pardons.” Raskin added: “It is one thing for CBS to make independent editorial decisions protected by the First Amendment. It is quite another to make edits at [Trump’s] demand out of fear of retribution.” When corporate media flinches like this in the face of tyranny, we dig in. While they edit out the hard truths to appease a wannabe dictator, we expose them—while driving millions of people to take action. We’ve sent 548,125 letters to lawmakers to move the needle on dozens of issues in the last year alone. And our massive social media operation dominates the trends, as we dismantle Trump’s propaganda machine piece by piece with our daily news briefs. But we can’t sustain our work without the backbone of this movement—you. So if you haven’t yet, I hope you’ll support our independent journalism that fights back by upgrading to a paid subscription today: Onward! Eric Swalwell: https://www.dworkinsubstack.com/p/live-with-eric-swalwell-writing-americas COMMENTS: I think every democratic legislature in the country needs to be doing what California did. Good for Virginia Dems! Editing an interview in fear of retribution needs to be addressed-good for Raskin! As for the Virginia Dems redistricting—it is necessary to do everywhere possible so the elections are not rigged…again! ICE must follow rules…this should be standard! The repugs started this and Virginia is doing what it needs to do. Good for Virginia! I love their signs for ICE, this should be replicated in other states. Trump editing his own interview is typical but not ok. I’m tired of those who cower before a bully. Well done VA, time to fight fire with fire!! To say I am surprised that CBS bent the knee to the orange menace would be wrong. All of MSM has decided to cave to this wannabe dictator and it is a sad thing to see. I don't watch them anymore. I get my news from trusted sources that speak the truth, relate the news and keep their opinions to themselves the way good journalists are suppose to do. Many excellent journalists have left MSM because they believe in reporting the news truthfully without trying to sway public opinion. The public is smart and can form their own opinions about what is reported. Well, let me clarify. Most of the public is smart - magas not so much! I am delighted that Virginia Dems are choosing to fight back on this redistricting madness! I would love to see gerrymandering stopped when we get out country back. I would like to see a bipartisan committee in every state be responsible for redistricting and no politician can have any say. Thanks for the great news, Scott! Have a great day everybody! I’m so concerned about CBS period. To say I am surprised that CBS bent the knee to the orange menace would be wrong. Trump editing his own interview is typical but not ok. Scott, thanks for all the good news - we need this to counter all the chaos. Thank you for sharing the actions for the day, too! Keep up the great work! I grew up on CBS. Every weekday night Walter Cronkite told me of the day’s events and Mike Wallace, Harry Reasoner, Morley Safer and later, Dan Rather brought hard hitting and thought provoking journalism and commentary into millions of homes on Sunday night. Even as a teenager, 60 Minutes was a Sunday staple. Some people are either a Ford, Chevrolet or Dodge person, I was a CBS person. A news organization that once defined journalistic standards and integrity has now bent à knee in fealty to a mad king. What irony, if CBS had edited Don-Old's interview without his permission, he would have sued them for millions!!!! Bravo to Raskin for bringing this to the forefront. Today's news highlights so many brave people who are standing up and fighting back.... What a collection of hopeful actions!!!! Too bad that CBS failed the believing public about their determination and position on releasing the truth. Still support them but will definitely be sure that I have fact checked and listen more carefully for answers. It appeared to us that as usual, he just ignored the question. So I think iliked thought better. Habba is now to become Bondi’s “advisor” so that will of course end well. So much for citizens rights of public interest. Mass Media has devolved the idea of free press into corporate greed since Reagan. The law governing public airways in the U.S. broadcasting network is primarily established by the Communications Act of 1934, which created the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to regulate radio and television broadcasting in the public interest. This act includes provisions for licensing, content regulation, and the Fairness Doctrine, which required broadcasters to present contrasting views on public issues until its repeal in 1987. Public interest considerations in the media died the day Reagan dismantled the Fairness Doctrine. Here’s a thought: Trump merely threatening media outlets has had them running in fear. He claims harm. As a citizen, I can’t sue media for the harm inflicted by the promotion of lies by Fox, X, and Facebook. I can sue for libel or slander, but not for the profusion of falsehoods that has infected our nation. If/when we get past the Trump era, we need to change the Constitution and nationals laws to allow citizens recourse against deliberate, profuse lying. Fox, X and Facebook have literally harmed each of us. They should be held accountable, and not given the escape of claiming a first amendment right to deceive. ALINA HABBA failed to file a timely response in one of TRUMP'S NYC cases & just dismissed her failure becase SHE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO RESEARCH NYSTATE LAW! SHE LOST DEFAMATION CASES FILED BY E. JEAN CARROLL which is why the judgment is so high. ALINA HABBA certainly pretended to be SMART a great deal: Alina Habba says she would rather be pretty cuz you can "fake being smart" https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2024/1/5/2215665/-Alina-Habba-says-she-would-rather-be-pretty-cuz-pretending-to-be-smart-is-easy Trump’s Lawyer EATS HER OWN WORDS at Federal Trial as SHE CRUMBLES https://youtu.be/ZbM4vIE40i8?si=Or4eIkNg6ctqLiV5 Top Trump DOJ prosecutor under investigation for possible hush money scheme https://www.rawstory.com/alina-habba-investigation/ |
