The Resistance Roars: MAGA Superintendent Resigns, Comey Takes A Stand, and Obama Torches Trump’s LiesAmerica rises against the GOP’s extremismWe made it to Friday, but Trump’s evil circus is still causing constant chaos with their clown car of scandals. Which is why I’m glad to have more great news for you today. We’ve got a huge resignation, a former president dropping truth on the world, and some powerful acts of resistance to cover. Let’s jump in. GOOD RIDDANCEOne of the worst officials in America—Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters—announced that he plans to resign. Walters, who pushed hard to inject the Bible into public school curricula, claims he’s quitting to take on another career. Some folks in Oklahoma told me he was forced out. However it happened, I’m just glad he’s leaving. Even Oklahoma’s Republican Attorney General Gentner Drummond called Walter’s time in office “a stream of never-ending scandal and political drama.” Good riddance Ryan, never come back. VIRGINIA GOVERNOR’S RACE HEATS UPPeaceful protesters have gathered at nearly every stop of GOP gubernatorial nominee Winsome Earle-Sears’ bus tour across Virginia. Earle-Sears has already skipped at least five stops, which suggests she may be dodging the protests. One of the demonstrators, Patti Nelson of labor union SEIU, said: “The big MAGA, big ugly bill, [Earle-Sears] fully supports, and it’s going to destroy health care in Virginia … That’s why we’re here. We need to fight with every ounce of strength that we have to protect health care.” PROTESTS IN MASSACHUSETTSIn Malden, Massachusetts, folks rallied for the release of local roofer Hernan Escobar, who was detained by ICE. Escobar’s wife Leslie Perera Gonzalez, who is also an attorney, said Hernan has no criminal record and that there is a pending petition for him to become a permanent US resident. MA Gov. Maura Healey said Escobar “is not a threat to our communities. He is a part of our communities … Because of ICE actions, people are afraid to send their kids to school, to go to work, to seek healthcare, to report crimes. None of this makes us safer.” It sure doesn’t. COMEY TAKES A STANDFormer FBI Director James Comey posted a blistering video yesterday, condemning the indictment brought against him by Trump’s DOJ. With unwavering resolve, Comey stated: “My family and I have known for years that there are costs to standing up to Donald Trump. But we couldn’t imagine ourselves living any other way. We will not live on our knees, and you shouldn’t either.” The indictment also prompted senior DOJ prosecutor Troy Edwards—Comey’s son-in-law—to resign. In a moment where obedience would’ve been easier, they chose integrity. May it inspire others to do the same. OBAMA IN LONDONFormer President Barack Obama slammed Trump’s dangerous lies during an event in London this week. Obama said Trump’s “making broad claims around certain drugs and autism that have been continuously disproved,” calling it “violence against the truth.” He went on to say that there’s a “loss of leadership in promoting values like democracy, and rule of law, and free speech, and economic fairness … I find appalling.” So do I. “It’s easy to believe in free speech when everybody kind of agrees with it. It’s much harder when the people next to you seem just terrible, and are promoting ideas that feel like they’re inciting violence towards you,” added. Obama is absolutely right. And this is the kind of madness from Trump that we’ve been taking on for nearly a decade. We have no advertisers and no billionaire bosses—Trump can’t cancel us. Both states rank at the bottom of EDUCATION among states. Now TEXAS just passed a similar mandate. Somehow it seems elected officials believe that's a solution to PISS POOR EDUCATION they offer. There was a brief radio report of RYAN WALTERS blaming TEACHERS' UNIONS for education failures. From USA TODAY: As Ryan Walters resigns, what happens next? How Oklahoma fills role, election process excerpt: Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters is planning to quit his elected state office and take a job in the private sector. Appearing on Fox News at Night on Wednesday, Sept. 24, Walters told host Trace Gallagher he will lead the Teacher Freedom Alliance, a new professional organization that touts itself as “an alternative to union membership” for teachers. It is a part of the Freedom Foundation, a far-right anti-labor union think tank. His departure will leave a vacancy in state office, an important position that's in charge of leading the Oklahoma State Department of Education. A spokesperson for the governor said Wednesday that the office had not received a resignation notice from Walters, but if and when he resigns, it shouldn't take long for his replacement to take office. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/09/25/ryan-walters-resigns-what-happens-next-in-oklahoma-role-election-gov-kevin-stitt/86334915007/ In Massachusetts, there's an organization :The Boston Foundation, that studies, analyzes & formulates solutions based on successes. The COMMONWEALTH BEACON published this articles, although there are numerous others: Posted in Education Lessons for Boston on how schools and school districts improve We can draw from experience in BPS and elsewhere to drive change by Marinell Rousmaniere June 6, 2022 https://commonwealthbeacon.org/education/lessons-for-boston-on-how-schools-and-school-districts-improve/ Slashing EDUCATION FUNDING that would explore successful programs & fund successful programs is part of the MAGA GOP efforts to DESTROY PUBLIC EDUCATION. A sister-in-law who graduated from SKIDMORE with her teaching credentials worked in PUBLIC SCHOOLS when her husband was in the military was horrrified to discover that NO COLLEGE DEGREE was required in some states in order to teach school. Rather than blaming TEACHERS' UNIONS, how are teachers credentialed & qualified? What's their compensation like? What are the class sizes? Is there an aide to work with the child who has problems reading? If parents are struggling & working more than 1 job, how can they juggle reading to their kids? What about theirr local libraries & the programs offered? Funding is being cut for libraries. Funding is gone for PBS/NPR. What programs will be available to enlighten not just kids, but there are impressive science programs, as well as local reporting. When we were kids, my parents SPELLED in front of us - kids don't want to be excluded, so you better know what I-C-E C-R-E-A-M means. We could read by the time we were 4 years old for good reason! We didn't have cell phones or hand held gizmos to play games as babysitters. MAGA GOP don't want to fund public education & will find excuses to avoid doing so. One of the KOCHS ran for PRESIDENT & it was part of his platform. The question should be HOW DO WE FIGHT IT & ENSURE THAT KIDS GET AN EDUCATION? |
