Rest in Peace Glen Rogers

Last night at the vigil for the state-sanctioned murder of Glen Rogers, Father Fred Ruse delivered a powerful sermon on the importance of continuing to bear witness to these killings, so that the State cannot hide its violence in the shadows. I encourage you to watch the entire vigil here. And please read and share our statement, calling out our lawmakers’ purported “commitment” to victims of childhood sexual abuse while in the same breath executing one.

We are heartbroken. We are exhausted. This is not something you ever get used to. Each execution brings an additional layer of grief, pain, and frustration. And yet, we have to keep fighting, to make people listen. Our voices together are getting louder. At our vigil in Pinellas County, the news media showed up, and acknowledged that Governor DeSantis’ near record-breaking execution pace “is prompting calls for justice and opposition.” You are the opposition. You are the voices against this slaughter, insisting that justice does not equal death.

To those of you who joined us at in person vigils, online, or took action for Glen over these last few weeks, thank you.

As you know, we are already preparing for Florida’s next execution. Anthony Wainwright is scheduled to die on Tuesday, June 10, at 6 pm. Anthony was saddled with ineffective counsel at trial, and an appellate lawyer who missed a critical filing deadline, preventing the federal court from ever reviewing whether his death sentence was appropriate. Please take a moment to sign and share his clemency petition, and stay tuned for more information early next week.

Because I always choose to also bear witness to the joy - please help us in congratulating FADP Board Member and death row exoneree Herman Lindsey, who FINALLY was granted the right to vote this week. We can’t wait to watch you use your voice in the voting booth!

Please stay with us as we vow to continue to bear witness, and to continue to oppose Florida’s killing machine.

In grief and solidarity,
Maria DeLiberato
FADP Executive Director

P.S. We know how much you’ve already done—showing up, speaking out, standing with us. But with the alarming pace of executions in Florida, we urgently need your support to keep going. Please make a donation today.
