Good News For Us That’s Bad For TrumpOnward. As the Trump and Musk madness continues, I have some more good news for you. My hope is that this gives you at least some relief from their chaos—even if just for a moment. Today at 1pm ET I’ll be doing a live chat with fmr. US Rep. Beto O’Rourke, here on Substack. I’ll email subscribers a link when we launch. We’ll release the full interview next week, in case you miss it. Last night, an appeals court rejected Trump’s attempt to revive his executive order aimed at ending birthright citizenship. Good. Yesterday, hundreds of nurses, doctors, research scientists, and labor union members protested outside of the HHS headquarters. Putting a spotlight on Trump’s dangerous funding cuts to medical research and science, Rep. Jamie Raskin led chants of “Hey, hey RFK! Hands off the FDA,” and, “Hey, hey RFK! We remember JFK!” NY Gov. Kathy Hochul didn’t hold back at a press conference Wednesday, in response to Trump terminating NYC’s traffic congestion pricing program. Slamming the White House for posting a picture of Trump with a crown, Hochul said: “New York hasn't labored under a king in over 250 years, and we sure as hell are not going to start now. The streets of this city, where battles were fought; we stood up to a king. And we won then…We’ll see you in court.” In his annual budget address, IL Gov. JB Pritzker courageously delivered this powerful message: “My oath is to the Constitution of our state and our country. We don’t have kings in America—and I don’t intend to bend the knee.” Pritzker also said: “Democracy requires your courage. So gather your justice and humanity...and do not let despair overcome us, when our country needs us the most.” Speaking at a panel called “The Future of the Democratic Party” at the University of Chicago, Pete Buttigieg said what we’re all thinking about Trump and Musk’s mayhem: “We too demand government work different and better than it has...burning it to the ground isn't gonna do that for anyone.” Buttigieg also talked about what Democrats represent: “It’s always been about freedom, security, and democracy…not just freedom from an overbearing government, but…from anybody else who can threaten your freedom—from a corporation, to your neighbor.” In response to Trump surrendering to Putin and abandoning Ukraine, Sen. Richard Blumenthal brought this absolute fire: “What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable, a disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom. The president's surrender is pathetic and weak.” More maga voters have started to wake up and realize what they voted for. One disabled veteran, who was fired from FEMA as part of Trump’s dismantling of the federal workforce, said: “I voted for Donald Trump. But this is not what I was expecting. We didn’t think they were going to take a chainsaw to a silk rug.” Lastly, after many folks sounded the alarm, Trump threw out his absurd plans to destroy 160 million Covid tests, and take down the website where folks can order them for free. The tests are estimated to be worth half a billion dollars, and could save countless lives. Another great example of how speaking out and pushing back can make a huge difference. That’s exactly why I formed the Watchdog Coalition: To continue leading the opposition against Trump—just like I have for the last 9 years. We are fighting to defend Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security from GOP cuts, and taking on DOGE, every single day. Our tens of thousands of members are making their voices heard, having sent more than 174,000 letters, and countless calls to Congress. This week we’re launching two new campaigns—one to stop Trump’s dismantling of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and the other to protect the VA. We’re gaining momentum, but we need all hands on deck. 100% of our funding comes from our paid subscribers, right here on Substack. We don’t have any outside investors, or advertisers pushing us to sell snake oil. So if you haven’t yet, and you’re able, please join us as a paid subscriber today: No matter how you subscribe, thank you for doing what you can to make a difference. Onward! Scott What do you think about the White House posting a picture of Trump as a king? Don’t forget to like, re-stack, and share this post! |
