We oppose the nomination of Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget. What we heard at his Senate confirmation hearing today should give members of Congress and the public serious pause. Today Vought - said the Impoundment Control Act is not constitutional, and he suggested the administration will have to consider whether they will follow this law — but this is settled law, and violating it would mean overruling Congress’s constitutional authority of power of the purse; and
- refused to say whether or not he would reinstate Schedule F, which would allow the president to politicize the federal workforce and harm our communities.
Russell Vought should not be granted a position of power in our federal government. His expressed interest in expanding executive branch authority presents a clear danger to the already uneven balance of power in our federal government. Vought could send that balance completely off kilter. Vought cannot be trusted to respect the foundational guardrails of our democracy. We staunchly oppose his nomination, and are urging the Senate to do the same. Give now to fuel opposition to Vought. — POGO |
