Firefighters are making significant progress in containing the Eaton and Palisades fires, though the battle remains intense.
Crews have been working tirelessly to combat the raging flames, but tragically, at least 27 lives have been lost in the devastating wildfires.
Throughout his first term, Donald Trump repeatedly threatened to withhold federal disaster aid from Democrat-led states and cities. In some cases - like in response to Washington’s devastating wildfires in 2020 - Trump actually did deny aid, forcing the state to wait 5 months, until Biden took office, to receive help. Now as the historic wildfires continue to rage in Los Angeles, members of Republican leadership continue to suggest that federal aid for the most destructive wildfires in U.S. history should be conditional - with “strings attached”. “This is an attack on American people who made a voting decision that Donald Trump doesn't like,” said Former Washington Governor Jay Inslee. “They deserve to be treated like Americans.”
