Canadian MP Sends a Blistering Message to Trump on Day One

Donald Trump wasted no time on his first day back in the White House, launching into a chaotic, incoherent mess of economic threats and geopolitical blunders. Among them? Promising a reckless 25% tariff on Canada, America’s largest trading partner. But Canada isn’t backing down.
In a new interview with MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas, Canadian Member of Parliament Charlie Angus—who has been a frequent guest on the show—returned to issue a stark warning about the consequences of Trump’s erratic policies.
Angus didn’t mince words: “What we got to think of with Donald Trump is that the threats and the messaging are going to change every eight hours, every 12 hours.” And Trump’s inauguration speech, he said, set the tone for the instability ahead. “It was very ugly at times. It was very dark.”
While Trump was busy picking fights with Canada, Mexico, and Spain, Angus pointed out that the former president lavished praise on North Korea, calling it prime real estate for condos. “He loves dictators,” Angus said bluntly. “He's not standing up to Putin. Wasn’t he going to end the Ukraine war on day one?” Instead, Trump spent his first day renaming the Gulf of Mexico and threatening trade wars with allies.
Angus made it clear that Canadians are prepared for Trump’s chaos. “We aren't dropping our guard. We are ready.” He noted that Canada has already seen the rise of far-right extremism, emboldened by figures like Trump and Musk, but that the backlash will be swift. “By Donald continuing to keep the attention on Canada, he's bringing parties and politicians who don't normally get along together.”
And in a direct message to Trump and his team, Angus laid it out plainly: “If you think that starting a trade war with your number one trading partner is smart, I suggest you get some advice on what a tariff is, because I don't actually know if you understand what it is.”
Angus warned Trump: “We don’t roll over. We will stand firm. It’s going to be rough, it’s going to be hard, but you always stand up to a bully.”
Trump’s first day back in power was as unhinged as expected. But Canada—and the rest of the world—isn’t sitting idly by. Angus made it clear: The international resistance starts now.
