Happy Thursday and welcome back to Today’s American News, your source for news and analysis on the circus that is American politics and entertainment. To sum up the day's headlines: Republicans are a MAGA mess.
America is careening toward another Trump shutdown… Speaker Mike Johnson had the votes for a bipartisan plan to keep the government open through next month, but then Donald Trump—or should we say Elon Musk—stepped in and ruined everything. Just in time for the holidays, the narrow House Republican majority has failed to keep the government open and keep people paid; meanwhile, the media is obsessed with drones. The latest: A Trump-backed draconian spending plan failed 174-235 in the House with 38 Republicans voting nay. Follow the clusterf*ck here.
Trump Pentagon pick in more trouble as Senate GOPers want Hegseth’s FBI report… Stick a fork in this guy already. Unqualified Trump nominee for Defense Secretary and C-list Fox News host Pete Hegseth just caught another snag. In defiance of Trump, Republican U.S. Senators want access to the womanizer’s FBI report, a clear bad sign for the nominee. The more we learn about this guy, the worse it gets. It’s abundantly clear that Hegseth along with traitor Tulsi Gabbard must be sent to the exits as top national security nominees.
China is manufacturing stories against Taiwan and targeting U.S. lawmakers… Members of Congress are the intended audience of fake news from an American adversary, according to the FBI. China, officially the People’s Republic of China, which is ruled by the Chinese Communist Party, has made clear its intention for “reunification” with democratic Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, after 75 years of separation. As a well-placed source told NBC News, “The CCP is trying to undermine congressional support for Taiwan’s democracy, to paint it as corrupt and not in the American public interest. It will not work.”
Seth Meyers takes on the media’s drone obsession… With everything happening in our country, late-night host Seth Meyers gave us a reality check on the focus on drones. Watch below.
