The state of play is terrifying:
Hundreds of people in Lebanon are dead following days of explosions and airstrikes from the Israeli military. Tens of thousands have fled their homes with nothing more than a suitcase and little sense of when — or if — they’ll return.
Reports that the Israeli military is openly planning a ground invasion into Lebanon only increase the horrific possibility of a full-scale Israel-Hezbollah war.[1]
Right now, millions of lives in Israel, Lebanon, and beyond, including those of U.S. troops deployed across the Middle East, are at incredible risk. This untenable level of violence is as catastrophic as it is unnecessary. We’re encouraged that the Biden administration is already pursuing a ceasefire to de-escalate this crisis, but the fact remains: The situation we’re watching unfold threatens to ignite a full-scale regional war far more devastating than the horrific violence we’ve already seen — and it stems from the continuing violence in Gaza.
The Biden administration — as the Israeli government’s close ally and chief supplier of its weapons — has influence and pressure left to bear that can stall the escalation and secure a ceasefire in Gaza capable of stopping the deadly and dangerous spirals of violence. The choice is between de-escalation and more war. That’s why 11,134 activists have already spoken out, and, the president needs to hear from you too, now.
ACT NOW |
Already, across southern Lebanon and northern Israel, schools are being turned into shelters and parking garages into hospitals.
No one is made safer by the horrific cycle of violence we’ve seen over the past 11 months. You know it, we know it, and a growing number of experts, policymakers, and members of Congress know it too. Together, we continue to urge the U.S. government to use ALL its influence to secure a ceasefire that can start the end of the horrific bloodshed that has flowed across multiple borders these past 353 days.
Too many people fail to ask, “What happens after the bombs fall?” But not you. If you’re reading this, you know the best time to avoid more unnecessary suffering and loss of life is today.
With violence deepening across the Israel-Lebanon border, the time to speak out is now. As one of the Israeli government’s closest supporters, the Biden administration will play a key role in whatever happens. We need to ensure he has the voices of tens of thousands of people calling for peace in his ear when he makes his next move.
In the face of incredible suffering, activists like you continue to throw roadblocks on and open up off ramps from a violent path.
It’s how we, together with you and other partners here and around the world, helped secure a temporary ceasefire last November, pulled the Biden administration away from war with Iran in March, pushed the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Gregory Meeks to hold back from signing off on new weapons sales in April, and got over 100 members of Congress to skip Israeli PM Netanyahu’s speech in July.
With violence increasing once more, we have to dig deep once again. Please act today.
Thank you for working for peace,
The Win Without War team
