Senate candidate Kelly Dooner blasts state for converting Taunton hotel into shelter
Would work to change 'right to shelter' law
Dooner said if elected she’ll work with like-minded colleagues to fashion a bill that would amend and modify the state’s 1983 “right to shelter” law.
That law was intended to provide temporary housing and emergency services to homeless families with children and pregnant women who have nowhere to live.
She works as a paralegal for a Boston law firm and previously earned a paralegal certificate from Boston University.
In addition to Mayor Shaunna O’Connell’s endorsement, Dooner has appeared as a guest on the WRKO radio show of Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, who last month spoke at a fundraiser for Dooner at a Middleboro restaurant.
Dooner ran unsuccessfully twice against Democratic challenger Carol Doherty in 2020, in both a special and general election, for the state rep seat vacated by O’Connell — after O’Connell became a mayoral candidate when then Mayor Thomas Hoye accepted an offer to become interim register of the Bristol County Probate and Family Court.

Dooner Opposes Supplemental Budget
With Increased Funding for Migrants
“The Senate has refused to amend the right to shelter so the unlimited spending will continue. We need to stop Massachusetts from being a magnet state. Our resources must be limited to our residents,” said Dooner. “The appropriations passed yesterday will only continue the problems.”
The Senate passed another costly supplemental budget funding emergency housing for migrants. While the Senate claims to have established a 9 month cap on the housing, there are numerous loopholes to the cap including unlimited extensions and exemptions for vague medical conditions, children in school, and so-called progress on work placement.
“The Senate has failed the hard working taxpayers,” said Dooner.

Abrams is the US foreign policy’s living, breathing Heart of Darkness. In one particularly gruesome—but all too representative—example, the US-trained Atlacatl Battalion military conducted a massacre of hundreds of civilians in an area thought to be sympathetic to the rebels, murdering more than 500 people in six villages.
In just one of those villages, El Mozote, 200 people were killed, the men were tortured and executed, then the women were executed and, finally, the children, by soldiers spraying machine-gun fire into a tiny building where they were hiding. It was also during this period that the beloved Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was critical of the US-supported dictatorship, was murdered on orders of Salvadoran Maj. Roberto d’Aubuisson.
