Markey, Warren light Steward on fire at private equity in health care hearing

Sens. Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren slammed Steward Health Care and its CEO Ralph de la Torre — who was a no-show — on Wednesday at their hearing about the impact of private equity on the questionable care, finances and future of Steward's nine Mass. hospitals. Markey publicized a bill he filed, the Health Over Wealth Act, which would enable federal regulators to bar private equity investments in health care by companies "engaged in price gouging, understaffing or creating barriers to care," reports the Globe's Travis Andersen. — Boston Globe | State House News Service
