Let's fight for ALL AMERICANS across our great nation!
My father is on Social Security. I will fight like hell to protect it.I'm running for Senate to make sure we defeat extremist Republicans in Washington, D.C.My father is Dale Christiansen. From an early age, my dad worked hard to make sure my family could live. Growing up, my dad worked as a machinist intermittently. His work wasn’t easy–no manual labor is. One of my earliest memories of his work was when I was in the second grade. My dad showed up to my school concert after work in torn-up clothing and machine greased stained hands. I remember feeling embarrassed. Years later, Dale began working for Great Dane as a laborer, and did so, all the way until 2016 when he retired at 65. Throughout his 25 years at Great Dane, my father experienced furloughs and stagnant wages. Despite all that, every morning he would get up at 4:30, kiss my mother goodbye, and drive 24 miles to get to work by 5:30 and work a 10-hour shift. My dad’s job was our livelihood–without it, our family would not have survived. Looking back, I was wrong to feel embarrassed. I soon learned the importance of working to make a living and to support a family of my own. After putting in decades of labor, my dad finally retired in 2016, hoping to earn the Social Security income from a program he paid into for years. He, like many Americans, retired at the age of 65 because no one wants to work until they die. It’s not right. It’s unAmerican. But, despite my dad’s hard work, Kevin Cramer and other extremist Senators want to take away his right to Social Security. They want to cut retirement programs, make it harder to earn the benefits we’ve worked so hard for, and even introduced a new plan that would lead to Americans working until the day they die. Seeing this, I knew I could not sit back any longer. It’s why I am running to replace Kevin Cramer in the Senate and fight for working and middle-class families. We need to protect Social Security. We need to protect Medicare. We need to make sure Americans like my dad can retire without having to work until the day they die. Like many families in America, I don’t come from money. I grew up in a family that struggled to get by in rural America. We counted on food stamps to put dinner on the table. We counted on government-funded programs, like Headstart for Preschool. So believe me when I say I know what it’s like to struggle. I know what it’s like to wonder where your next meal is coming from. I know what it’s like to live on a fixed income. I will never forget where I came from or who I am fighting for in the Senate. But first, I have to compete with Cramer’s millionaire and billionaire mega-donors. Democrats have a razor-thin Majority in the Senate. With Senator Manchin’s retirement announcement has left our Majority hanging by a thread. Our race to flip this North Dakota Senate seat has never been more vital. I will vote to end the filibuster and codify Roe. We can win this race, and I have the polling to prove it. Our campaign recently commissioned our first internal poll and results were eye-opening. Some toplines are:
Senator Kevin Cramer is a lifetime, lackluster politician, who has previously lost three statewide races in North Dakota, with mediocre polling numbers. His favorability is below water, his job approval flat, and his reelect a dismal 33%. He is “more of the same” from Washington. He is part of the problem and not part of the solution. I’m the polar opposite of Kevin Cramer and represents that change that voters want: I’m not a politician; I understand first-hand the challenges people face, I am a problem solver, and I’m an outsider unafraid to tackle the status quo in Washington. In December, we released our launch ad video with outstanding results, as the video has over 5 million views. You can watch the ad here. We can win this race but I need your help. You can donate here. I look forward to talking to you from the trail. Always in service, Katrina |
