FW: Tell the Senate to confirm Berner to 4th Circuit

It’s a new year and there are still dozens of judicial vacancies waiting to be filled, giving us the opportunity to continue pushing for judges who will protect our rights, health and safety. That’s why we need your help to make sure the Senate fills all vacancies and confirms U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit nominee Nicole Berner. Berner is a gender justice champion who will protect our rights as a fair and impartial judge!

Tell the Senate: Confirm Berner Now

We need judges committed to equal justice for all

TAKE ACTION

Nominated by President Biden back in November, Berner has spent her career litigating for workers’ rights, reproductive rights, and LGBTQ rights, showcasing her deep understanding of how the law impacts the lives of women, girls, and LGBTQ people.

Here’s why the Senate must confirm her ASAP:

  • Berner defends workers’ rights and is committed to social justice. For nearly twenty years, she’s served at the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) representing the union in state and federal court to defend workers’ rights to organize, protect access to health care, and the right to vote.
  • Berner has fought to protect reproductive freedom, including abortion care. During her time at Planned Parenthood Federation of America and at SEIU, she litigated to protect and expand access to reproductive health care for all.
  • This vacancy has been open and unfilled for over a year. For our courts to work for all of us, we need judges on the bench ready to hear cases. The Fourth Circuit hears cases impacting our rights in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. Longstanding vacancies hurt access to justice we critically need as our rights are under threat.
  • Berner will bring an important underrepresented perspective to the federal bench. If confirmed, Berner would be the first openly LGBTQ person to serve on the Fourth Circuit and only the third openly LGBTQ woman to serve on the federal appellate bench. She will also be the third woman from Maryland to sit on the Fourth Circuit and join a small number of civil rights and labor lawyers who serve on the federal bench.

We need the Senate to fill all vacancies and confirm fair and impartial judges who are dedicated to equal justice and protecting the civil rights of all people. Tell the Senate to confirm Nicole Berner NOW!
