DA José Garza: Abbott just lost in court

Governor Abbott is quickly learning he's taking things too far.

Recently, a Travis County Judge ruled that HB 2127, properly named the "Death Star Bill" for its sweeping destruction of local regulatory practices that keep workers and our community safe, is unconstitutional. This sets up a challenge in higher courts. But it also empowers other cities to mount their own lawsuits against Abbott's assaults on local control.

The Death Star Bill is another example of Abbott's attempts to take away the will of the people and the power of elected leaders to serve our communities and make us all safer. We can fight back, but we can only win together with your support.

We're laying the groundwork for a critical defense of our rights as Governor Abbott continues to work against the will of the people. It's going to take all of us to stand up for the vision of tangible safety we're creating in Travis County. Can you help us reach our goal by donating $5, $10, $20, or whatever you're capable of today?
In solidarity,
District Attorney José Garza
