Last week we shared ten things you may not know about Katie Porter—like that Katie is the only candidate in this race who doesn’t accept corporate PAC or federal lobbyist money. But this week, we’re making it a little more fun:
- As a kid, Katie was an active member of 4-H.
In college, Katie was an intern for Senator Chuck Grassley. While their politics differ, she respected that his office took the time to reply to everyone who wrote in. She’s brought that same goal of listening to constituents to her own Congressional office.
- Katie studied consumer protection under Elizabeth Warren in law school.
- Katie’s daughter Betsy is named after Elizabeth Warren.
- Her go-to drink is a diet Dr. Pepper.
- Katie’s grocery store of choice is Albertsons (the workers there are unionized!).
- A single mom of three, Katie served as her kids’ Cub Scout leader.
- Her mom is a quilter, and you can see some of her work in the background of Katie’s Zooms or TV interviews.
- She’s a huge fan of fiction and reads several books a week.
- After graduating from college, Katie taught English to 8th graders in Hong Kong.
Here’s the deal, Katie isn't a career politician. She’s a working parent who ran for office after Trump was elected and flipped a red seat blue. In the Senate she’ll fight everyday to protect workers and families and hold power to account. Can you pitch in and help send her to the United States Senate?
