Federal investigators have new evidence that Trump reviewed classified documents and ordered them moved AFTER receiving a subpoena from the Justice Department, strengthening the potential obstruction of justice case against the disgraced former president. With his looming arraignment for falsifying business records to cover up his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels consuming most of the headlines in recent weeks, it's easy to forget there are MULTIPLE investigations into Trump’s corrupt conduct, each of which could end very badly for him.

Tornado death toll now over 30 as storms continue to ravage multiple states
Sunday saw more tragedy as a wave of ferocious storms spawned more than 50 tornados in at least seven states, leaving wide devastation across the South and Midwest in their wake. Further west, the southern Great Plains states prepared for another battering of wind and rain. This kind of extreme weather could quickly become the new normal if we don't take decisive action on climate ASAP!

Texas judge orders banned LGBTQ+ books returned to public libraries
U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman shredded Republican officials in a Texas county who removed books from their public libraries that included works about the origins of the KKK, a transgender teen, and class disparities in America. “Although libraries are afforded great discretion for their selection and acquisition decisions, the First Amendment prohibits the removal of books from libraries based on either viewpoint or content discrimination,” he said. We hope this case becomes the precedent from which puts an end to ALL the GOP's efforts to rewrite history and impose a delusional and bigoted version of history on our children.

Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Democrats "pedophiles" in 60 Minutes interview
What were they thinking? In an appearance on CBS's flagship news show — one that immediately prompted a furious backlash against the network — Rep. Taylor Greene pushed hatefully bigoted QAnon conspiracies and Democrats, and all veteran journalist Lesley Stahl could say is "Wow" and "why can't you say that without name-calling?" Just a complete lack of any real pushback that implicitly legitimizes the disgusting nonsense being platformed on national television. Congratulations, CBS. Hope all the attention and the ratings was worth it to treat the most unserious, untruthful, and unhinged member of Congress like a person who has anything of any value to say.

Mississippi passes controversial bill to take over majority-Black state capital
The Republican-led lower chamber passed the contentious legislation that will expand the state police’s jurisdiction and give the GOP-controlled statehouse the power to appoint judges inside the majority-Black and Democrat-led city of Jackson. It's an explicit white takeover in the state capital that has the largest percentage of African American citizens of any major U.S. city and essentially is the installation of judicial apartheid in a historic hotbed of horrifying racism.

Country music awards opens with plea for "real action" on gun violence
With the Nashville-based industry gathering in Texas for the annual CMT Awards, it's not a huge shocker that event organizers paid tribute to the victims of last week's tragic mass school shooting in their backyard. What was pleasantly surprising – and welcome – was the complete lack of the obfuscating and mixed messaging we've seen from the party and the news outlets with the decidedly country music demographic. Finally, just a clear call to end gun violence once and for all on a platform many Republicans are likely to see.
Freight train derails in western Montana, spilling contents into local lake
At least 25 cars on a train traveling through Montana derailed Sunday morning in Sanders County, a rural area situated about 250 miles northwest of Butte. Thankfully, the only thing spilled into the lake were hundreds and hundreds of Coors Light beers, much to the delight of local male residents, and led to the Missoulian's photographer snapping this instantaneously iconic picture. Local fish reported they "couldn't tell the difference" in the lake water after the spill.
DOJ arrests "White Lives Matter" member accused of attempting to burn down church that was planning to host drag events
The inevitable — and desired — result of the right-wing's terrifying demonization campaign against drag and drag queens is violence against the LGBTQ community, and a would-be terrorist has been arrested in Ohio planning to do just that. Sadly, this won't get the coverage it deserves from a news media that loves to fan the flames of culture war but hates to grapple with its consequences.

Today’s Action: Call young voters for Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election TOMORROW!
We are exactly ONE DAY OUT from the crucial Supreme Court election in Wisconsin, and the stakes COULD NOT be any higher. Progressive voters have a chance to flip control of the state Supreme Court and help restore equitable access to reproductive healthcare. Securing Democratic seats on the state’s high court could spell the end of the current, near-total abortion ban that’s been on the books since 1849. And since Republican gerrymandering in Wisconsin is some of the most egregious in the country, this may be our best chance at restoring reproductive rights for marginalized people currently being denied equitable access to care — not to mention protecting our elections from any GOP shenanigans in 2024.
While progressives have managed to deliver a string of recent statewide abortion-rights victories in the wake of last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, we must be steadfast in our pursuit to restore and preserve access to abortion care to the millions of folks living in Republican-dominated red states. The battle for reproductive healthcare is raging, and we must stand ready to fight.
