Fox News braces for more turbulence as second defamation lawsuit advances

The New York Supreme Court has given the green light for a second voting company to proceed with a serious lawsuit against Fox — at a staggering $2.7 billion it's even larger and "more dangerous" than the Dominion case.

New FBI data shows hate crimes jumped in 2021
The Republican Party is increasingly embracing hatred of the LGBTQ community as one of its central tenets and the horrific consequences are undeniable. The FBI has revealed that hate crimes spiked by a staggering 11.6% in 2021, driven in large part by attacks targeting victims due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.

A Black man was found dead after he told his mother he was being chased. Police said there's "no reason" to suspect foul play
The family of a Black man who was found dead in Mississippi after he warned his mother that he was being chased by white men hurling racial slurs demanded a federal investigation Monday after local authorities said they had “no reason” to suspect foul play in the man's death. Not only do cops repeatedly target the Black community — they refuse to investigate crimes targeting that same community, a state of affairs that raises the obvious question: what are these cops even for?

Trump jumps on ridiculous, racist bandwagon, blames Silicon Valley Bank collapse on "wokeness"

Echoing obnoxious, straight-faced broadsides from a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece that casually questioned if SVB's lone Black board member or single LGBTQ board member were somehow responsible for the bank's historic collapse, the disgraced ex-president leaped at the chance to shift blame away from his disastrous deregulation efforts while in office and onto "wokeness," whatever the hell that even means at this point.

War in Ukraine "distracts from our country’s most pressing challenges," Ron DeSantis says
Florida's despicable authoritarian governor thinks that America doesn't have the time or money to help Ukrainians defend against a brutal invasion because we need to focus on the things that really matter, like stripping women of their reproductive rights, banning books, and targeting trans children.

DCCC: This is who controls the levers of power in Washington — a Trump sycophant, a pathological liar, and an unhinged conspiracy theorist. If we ever want to see Washington accomplish anything ever again and protect all the historic accomplishments we've achieved under President Biden, we need to flip the House back to blue. Can you chip in to help Democrats win?

Prosecutors say January 6 defendant violated travel conditions by attending CPAC
A Jan. 6 insurrectionist violated the terms of his court-approved travel conditions to attend the deranged Conservative Political Action Conference last month, according to federal prosecutors. Gabriel Garcia sought permission from the court to travel to Washington, DC, from Florida to observe the Jan. 6 trials of several fascist Proud Boys and another Jan. 6 defendant. Garcia also said the purpose of his travel was to consult his counsel pending his own trial. Instead, he attended one trial for a few hours and then spent the rest of his day at the right-wing conference, rubbing elbows with the worst people this country has to offer.

White House calls on Pence to apologize for "homophobic joke" about Buttigieg
The Biden administration has demonstrated time and again that they won't stand idly by as Republicans smear and attack the LGBTQ community. This time, the attack hit even closer to home as disgraced former Vice President Mike Pence — a theocratic creep who must never again be allowed near the levers of power — attacked Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigeg with homophobic mockery. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre quickly hit back by condemning the bigoted remarks and demanding an immediate apology.

Three-year-old girl accidentally shoots sister, 4, dead in Texas
Every argument the right wing has to justify the reckless distribution of firearms to an irresponsible civilian population is debunked every time a child finds their parents' gun and shoots someone with them, thinking it's a toy — which happens an average of 89 times a year.

DOJ lawsuit accuses Rite Aid of unlawful opioid prescriptions
The government has filed suit against the Rite Aid corporation, accusing the pharmacy giant of knowingly handing out wildly addictive opioids for prescriptions "that were medically unnecessary, lacked a medically accepted indication, or were not issued in the usual course of professional practice." Not only did Rite Aid pharmacies hand out opioids willy-nilly, they also attempted to cover their tracks by deleting internal notes and telling pharmacists to "be mindful" about things put into writing — i.e. shut up about it, we're making money here. Inevitably, Rite Aid will face some kind of slap-on-the-wrist fine and then continue with business as usual, because America.

Today’s Action: Pass the George Floyd Policing Act

George Floyd was taken from us on May 25, 2020. His death — at the hands of officers sworn to protect and serve people like him — triggered nationwide, collective outrage and amplified calls to transform America’s historically racist and brutal policing system. The man who knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, former officer Derek Chauvin, was found guilty of murder and manslaughter — verdicts he predictably appealed several weeks ago. Since Floyd’s death, Americans — all too often our Black and Brown brothers and sisters — have been subjected to more unconscionable brutality and misconduct by police and further inaction by local, state, and federal officials. Where is the justice?

In January, 29-year-old Tyre Nichols died, three days after being brutally beaten by five Memphis police officers — members of a now-defunct, militarized anti-crime unit called Scorpion. Nichols’ mother attended the State of the Union as a mourning guest of the First Lady, and President Biden made sure America heard her plea — that something good must come from Tyre’s death. We cannot wait for another Black or Brown person to be killed by poorly trained, racially charged, overly aggressive police. As Biden said — we need our elected officials to finish the job. And let’s be clear, this is a huge job that’s barely just begun.

For George Floyd. For Breonna Taylor. For Tyre Nichols. For so many others lost to us forever. Call (202.224.3121) or email your members of Congress and demand they pass the George Floyd Policing Act.

Numerous bills — many named after victims of police violence — have been introduced in Congress since Floyd’s death nearly three years ago, only to be blocked by obstinate Republicans disinterested in changing the status quo. Just last week, radical right-wingers in the House moved to block Washington, DC’s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act, approved by the city council in December. Time and time again we have seen that America’s policing problem will not go away on its own. Why have so many of our elected officials refused to heed calls for meaningful reform? Newly empowered Republicans would rather waste time passing performative bills “denouncing the horrors of socialism” than confront the glaring injustices occurring daily throughout the country. Enough is enough.

Congress must step up and help our hurting communities. They can start by passing the George Floyd Policing Act. If they don’t, well, we’ll make sure to remember when election time comes. Tyre Nichols’ mother said something good must come from his death, his murder — in truth, that something should have come decades ago. Tyre’s blood — and the blood of so many others — is on Congress’ hands.

Email or call (202.224.3121) your members of Congress and ask them if they care about Black lives. Then, ask them to prove it by passing the George Floyd Policing Act.

PS — Please don't forget to sign the petition telling Congress to pass President Biden’s budget, and be sure to follow us on TwitterFacebook, and Instagram.
