Failed MAGA candidate arrested for shootings up homes of Democrats in New Mexico
Failed Republican New Mexico State House candidate and fervent Trumper Solomon Peña was arrested by an Albuquerque SWAT team Monday in connection with a string of recent shootings at the homes of local Democratic elected leaders. Peña, an ex-felon and rabid election denier who lost his 2022 run for a state House seat, is accused of conspiring with four men to shoot up the homes of two state legislators and two county commissioners in just the latest example of the violent, terroristic radicalism festering in MAGAland.

The return of the El Niño climate phenomenon later this year is expected to cause global temperatures to rise “off the chart” and deliver unprecedented heatwaves, scientists have warned. Early forecasts suggest El Niño will return later in 2023, exacerbating extreme weather around the globe and making it “very likely” the world will exceed 1.5C of warming. The hottest year in recorded history, 2016, was driven by a major El Niño.

A former campaign volunteer in November accused Oregon state Rep. Brian Stout of sexually abusing her and threatening her with violence. At a hearing in St. Helens, Oregon, last week, a judge dismissed efforts by Stout to have the five-year order dismissed without any testimony. The freshman lawmaker was subsequently stripped of his committee posts.

Since the calamitous rise and predictable fall of the disastrous Trump administration, disinformation has run rampant through our country — including, unfortunately, the halls of US Congress. When scores of elected officials continuously spew the same misinformation that spurred Trump’s deadly January 6 insurrection, it becomes much more difficult for ordinary Americans to sift through the muck and identify the truth. Spotting fake information is a critical skill we all must continuously sharpen and hone, because as much as we’d all like to think we’re impervious to being misled, we’re not. Even the most studious politicos among us can fall prey to campaigns of deception if we aren’t fully prepared.
To keep democracy strong, we must remain vigilant in the fight against disinformation. One of the easiest ways to fight right-wing deception is by learning how to spot the lies and how to pull your friends and family out of the hole. That’s why the Democratic National Committee is hosting training sessions on popping the disinformation bubble every Thursday from 8-9pm EST. Just an hour of your time will help equip you with another vital resource in the fight for a progressive future!
