Many new companies are marketing products that claim to make the menstruation process more comfortable. But two of them — Thinx and Knix Wear — have come under fire for selling period underwear that contain dangerous "forever chemicals" known as PFAs. These chemicals do not break down or biodegrade, lingering around... forever. Extensive research reveals this can be extremely dangerous to human health and the environment. The chemicals have been linked to endocrine disruption, menstruation changes, increased cholesterol levels, low birth weight, weakened childhood immunity, and weight issues in both children and adults. On top of that, our ecosystems are already polluted enough. We don't need more products poisoning our Earth and water, causing untold harm to plants, animals, and humans for centuries to come. Clearly, such toxins should never be in any clothing or underwear — especially when those items have been marketed as supposedly safe, healthy, and natural.
The last thing that a person who is on their period needs to be worried about is whether their underwear is safe or not, but Thinx and Knix clearly do not care about the health of their customers. Luckily, those same consumers are standing up to the corporations responsible through lawsuits in Canada and California. The companies now have a chance to do the right thing. To start, they must remove all PFAs from their products. Additionally, they must compensate all consumers whose health was negatively impacted by the PFAs in their period products. Finally, both companies need to donate to environmental causes and organizations to offset some of the damage they've already caused to ecosystems by using PFAs. Sign the petition now to tell both Thinx and Knix that it is time they finally take responsibility for their actions!
Thank you,
Miranda
