Justice Neil Gorsuch fumes that the Supreme Court "failed" to "honor this Nation's promises" as it rolled back tribal authority in Oklahoma
In a 5-4 decision, the nation's highest court delivered a victory to state authorities and a blow to tribal sovereignty, declaring that Oklahoma officials had jurisdiction over crimes involving non-Native Americans in Native American territory. Gorsuch failed to see the irony in his impassioned defense of our nation's promises after overturning Roe last week.

Nearly half of US murders go unsolved
With police budgets at an all-time high, it is unacceptable that police departments still complain about staffing shortages and "lack of trust with communities." Perhaps the perception of police as protectors of peace and skilled crime solvers — convenient myths perpetuated by copaganda to cover up their historic track record of brutal suppression and incompetency — doesn't quite jive with reality in the streets and ordinary Americans have finally had enough.

1955 warrant in Emmett Till case found, family seeks arrest
The 67-year-old, unserved warrant for a white woman, Carolyn Bryant Donham, was unearthed in a Mississippi courthouse. Donham accused the 14-year-old Till of making advances on her and identified him to the men who would later lynch him. The warrant was never served because the police chief at the time did not want to "bother" the then-young mother of two. Now Till's family are rightfully seeking her arrest, nearly 70 years later.

Today’s Action: Pass federal abortion protections now!
In the aftermath of the devastating Roe v. Wade decision, anti-abortion lawmakers are already planning how to prevent their residents from seeking out-of-state abortion care. As a wave of trigger laws come crashing down, some district attorneys are promising not to prosecute abortion cases — but it’s still one of our only lines of defense against brutal attacks on bodily autonomy. We need more! We need our federal government to enshrine reproductive rights into law nationwide.
What at first felt like a terrifying possibility is now a grim reality for half the country, as women in red states with trigger laws lost their right to abortion care instantly. It has never been more crucial to join the fight. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. The fight isn’t over yet. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here. You can still currently receive abortion aid via mail in most states, and financial aid is available if you cannot afford your care. While acquiring and using abortion pills may come with legal risk, widespread access to such resources is crucial for women under attack from crusading conservatives. We are lucky to have abortion funds and activists who have been gathering resources in preparation for this fight.
It only took 48 hours after the release of the infamous draft opinion leaked before Louisiana conservatives began discussing how to contort abortion into homicide. Just this May, Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt signed into law the strictest anti-abortion legislation in the country — effectively banning all abortions starting at fertilization. It’s clear that Republicans are more motivated than ever to rip away their constituents’ right to choose — willing and eager to force unwanted pregnancy onto everyone, including survivors of sexual abuse, under the threat of felony charges. It’s downright cruel.
Regardless of what conservatives would like to be true, America is not a theocracy. Over 60% of Americans support legal abortion access. A legislator’s job is not to play God, it’s to serve their communities. Overturning Roe v. Wade set an extremely dangerous precedent for the treatment of anyone who isn’t a straight, religious, white, cisgender male — especially after Justice Thomas indicated his intent to review other landmark rulings, like the ones that legalized gay marriage and fought for privacy in the bedroom.
