Difficult news

Real Justice

I have some difficult news. I know there are a lot of difficult things going on in the world, but please hear my heart, OK? You’ve been an important part of our fight.

Since 2018, the year that we helped elect Larry Krasner as DA in Philadelphia, the number of donors making monthly gifts to Real Justice has declined by 69 percent. That’s roughly 3,000 donors! Most of those contributions were small donations of $5 or $25 a month. But together, they add up.

I actually love this about us. We have thousands of people all around America who are making our work possible, just chipping in what they can each afford every month. I also understand that a lot of people are squeezed financially and simply can’t give as much as they’d like.

But this is no time to cut back on elections for District Attorneys – who are essentially the CEOs of our local justice systems. The police execution of Patrick Lyoya just happened this month. Police murders and incarceration rates are actually on the rise in the United States.

So today I am announcing an ambitious goal of reaching 10,000 monthly donors for justice during this April fundraising campaign! We got close to this number in the past, and we can do it again!!!

Will you support our hyper-effective, hyper-local work for prosecutors who will fight for ALL of us to have real justice? If so, please pitch in $5 a month. It is unacceptable for our justice systems to only work for wealthy, white folk.

Or make a one-time donation.

We are a Political Action Committee, but we rely on our monthly donors to make our work possible. We simply couldn’t survive without them. We don’t have big foundations with billion-dollar budgets waiting in the wings to help out.

Our monthly donors are a CORE part of what allows us to take on costly elections and battles like Chesa Boudin’s.

There are other organizations where you can go for social media hot takes in response to the latest news. What we do is different. We spend the time recruiting, vetting, and supporting strong candidates who are actually committed to justice and civil rights.

But the way things are looking now, we may face some very difficult choices. That’s why I am coming to you today and asking you to step up and become a sustaining, monthly donor for justice.

Can I count on you?

Shaun
