An infuriating story of voter suppression:

Leading up to the 2018 election, Brian Kemp and his allies used every trick they could to make it harder for Georgians to vote. Since then, they have made it even harder to exercise our basic voting rights.

In a moment, I want to share the story of a young Georgia voter who had to fight Kemp’s system to cast her ballot in 2018. But first, I have to ask:

Our campaign’s success depends on mobilizing our supporters to overcome Georgia Republicans’ shameless anti-voter attacks. Will you chip in $5 right now to help our campaign overcome voter suppression and win in November?

A few years ago, I met Diamond, a college student eager to participate in our democracy here in Georgia. She had registered to vote through a high school registration drive. After starting college, she updated her new address to vote from school.

Months later, the county still had not updated her voter registration information — a prerequisite to participation. After extensive inquiries — and statewide media attention — the county’s lawyers confirmed that her registration had been processed.

But when she headed to the polls in Columbus to cast her very first ballot, a poll worker told her she did not exist as a valid voter.

She called for assistance and — after hours of delays and more confusion — Diamond was finally able to vote. Because she knew who to call and she had the patience to wait out a broken system. Too many eligible voters don’t or can’t.

Voting should never be this difficult. Yet for too many Georgians, the barriers are nearly insurmountable.

Last year, following record voter turnout among voters of color, Brian Kemp and his fellow Republicans passed vindictive new voting restrictions that specifically target the same communities. Since 2018, they have worked shamelessly to stop us from competing on a level playing field.

We will have to outwork our opponents to make sure all our supporters can vote and be heard. Can you contribute $5 right now so we can overcome Kemp’s anti-voter attacks, win this election and get to work building One Georgia?

Thank you,

Stacey
