Republicans know just how popular the For the People Act really is

While Republicans in state legislatures across the country pass bills to suppress the right to vote, Mitch McConnell is working at a frenetic pace to give them political cover and take back the House and Senate in 2022.

The New Yorker report “Inside the Koch-Backed Effort to Block the Largest Election-Reform Bill in Half a Century” revealed leaked audio from a private call between one of McConnell’s senior aides and Republican-aligned conservative groups, including the Koch brothers’ network, where they discussed how to stop H.R. 1, the For the People Act.

Republicans know that the For the People Act has immense support even among their own voters. When we talk about making Election Day a federal holiday, establishing national automatic voter registration, ending partisan gerrymandering, and requiring the disclosure of dark money donors, right-wing politicians like Mitch McConnell get very nervous about their next election.

It’s clear we have a choice. We can defy McConnell and his dark money allies and pass the strongest voting rights legislation in generations — or we can see our democracy erode even further.

Last month, I came to you with a request to join me as a citizen co-sponsor of the For the People Act. That week, the House passed that crucial bill.

Today, I am asking you to join my demand that the Senate bring the For the People Act to the floor. Secret phone calls and dark money political donors cannot be allowed to stand in the way of our democracy.

Thank you for defending our democracy with the urgency that this moment demands.
