Friends – Last month, the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office tried to charge us $1 million to fulfill a routine public records request. This absurd demand is an affront to government transparency. It’s also illegal – so we sued. This is exactly why we launched the What a Difference a DA Makes campaign in 2017. Four years later, we're still doing that work, and we still need your help to hold district attorneys accountable. Can you join the ACLU and Brockton Interfaith Community next week for virtual convening on DA accountability in Plymouth County?
District attorneys are the most powerful figures in the criminal legal system; they decide which cases to prosecute and what charges to bring against the accused. If we want to fix the gross racial disparities in Plymouth County’s criminal system, we need to start at the source. It will take more than lawsuits to hold elected officials accountable. We need everyone in the community to raise their voice to demand racial justice. We hope you’ll join us on April 28 to learn how you can get involved. In solidarity, ACLU of Massachusetts |
