Really, DCCC?!

Justice Democrats

Last week, the head of the DCCC said unequivocally that they wouldn’t conduct an “autopsy” — a critical review of missteps — for the 2020 elections even though it lost seats in the House for Democrats.

It’s this kind of unwillingness to look at past mistakes that will lead to future failure. The DCCC’s big corporate donors don’t want the Democrats to see how popular policies like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal are.

We released a review of critical mistakes made by Congressional Democratic campaigns DAYS after the 2020 election because we know just how important it is to learn from the past. The DCCC’s refusal to do the same is an ominous sign for the midterms.

We’re working to transform the Democratic Party every day through recruiting progressive primary challengers AND proving that Democrats can win by running on progressive policies.

We saw how key a bold economic message was in the Georgia runoff elections for Senate. And we know that running on direct economic relief and raising wages is popular with the people. The DCCC needs to review how the lack of such an economic message hurt swing district Democrats.

Incumbent Democrats in competitive re-election races who ran on Medicare for All won every single race. Is the DCCC willing to recruit House candidates who support this massively popular policy? Unfortunately, the DCCC is taking money from the corporate special interests that don’t want Medicare for All to pass.

The political establishment’s conventional wisdom says that policies like Medicare for All and a Green New Deal are scary for voters. But our studies and so many outside polls show they are massively popular across the political spectrum. If the DCCC was willing to do an earnest review of what voters really want and need, maybe they’d see this reality too.

We’re fighting to ensure Democrats champion popular policies based on equity and justice so we can build a progressive future and keep power away from Republicans.

In solidarity,

Justice Democrats
