Twitter has temporarily suspended Donald Trump Jr. from tweeting or retweeting after the president’s son posted false information on the coronavirus on the social media site, according to a Republican strategist Andrew Surabian.
The suspension will last 12 hours, the report said, and is a result of Trump tweeting a video touting hydroxychloroquine. President Donald Trump in the past has hailed the drug as a success story in battling the coronavirus.
During the suspension, the twitter account and timeline of the president’s son will remain active.
Research has shown the drug has no benefits in combating COVID-19 and actually showed an increase in deaths for those who took it.
Last month, Twitter removed a video tweeted by the official account of President Trump’s reelection campaign because it was reported for copyright infringement.
The accounts @TeamTrump and @TrumpWarRoom published tweets, which according to Politico contained videos narrated by Trump discussing George Floyd’s death in Minneapolis.
Last year, President Trump’s personal account included a post that included footage from a music video by rock band Nickelback, which was also removed for copyright reasons.
