In a medical emergency, the last thing people should be worrying about is whether the closest hospital will take their insurance. In the midst of a once-in-a-lifetime public health and economic crisis we have a responsibility to eliminate surprise medical bills faced by people who seek out-of-network care.
People seeking emergency medical care should not leave the hospital with bills that will leave their family in financial ruin. We need to make a change, no one should refuse care because they are afraid they won't be able to pay out-of-network fees.
As members of Congress make plans to return to Washington to take action to support the American people through this crisis, astronomical costs of out-of-network care need to be addressed. Insurance companies cannot continue to take advantage of consumers, especially in this crisis, by profiting off of these exorbitant medical fees.
Thank you for your advocacy and hoping you and your family remain well in these challenging times.
