Demand a vote on the For the People Act

David Cicilline

One year ago today, David and his colleagues took a historic step toward the reforms we need to strengthen our democracy:

The House passed H.R. 1, the For The People Act!

Here’s a throwback:

This sweeping anti-corruption bill goes after all the bad stuff (secret donors, campaign finance violations) and expands all the good stuff (voting rights, election security) about how our elections work. It restores power in our democracy to the people and away from corporate special interests.

Ensuring the government works for everyone shouldn’t be a partisan issue. But Mitch McConnell has shown repeatedly that he isn't interested in fixing our broken political system -- which is why the For The People Act has been collecting dust on McConnell’s desk for an entire year awaiting a vote in the Senate.

We can't let McConnell get
away with his shameless obstruction. Will you sign this petition to demand a vote on the For The People Act?

David is a leader in the fight for fair elections.

Just last month, he earned the support of advocacy group End Citizens United for his commitment to ending the dominance of big money in politics, protecting our elections from foreign interference, and protecting and expanding the right to vote.

Here’s what David fights for -- and what McConnell is so afraid of:
  • The For The People Act would provide greater transparency in our elections and empower small donors to own campaigns.
  • It would increase oversight of lobbyists, foreign agents, and campaign finance violations.
  • It would require super PACs and dark money groups to disclose their donors.
These are critical reforms that will strengthen our democracy for decades to come. We can’t afford to let the For The People Act sit in McConnell’s “legislative graveyard.”
