170,000 Lost Food Aid After Scalise's Law
Steve Scalise ran Trump's big law through the House. In his own state, about 170,000 people have lost food stamps since. Teacher Lauren Jewett is running to take his seat.
About 170,000 people in Louisiana have lost food stamps since Trump’s big law passed. That is one in five people who had them.
Most were cut off over paperwork. A missed form. A letter sent to the wrong address.
Steve Scalise is the House Majority Leader. He ran that law through the House and voted for it. Lauren Jewett is running to take his seat.

“Families Are Still Hungry”
The law made the rules for food stamps harder to meet. It also pushed more of the cost onto the state.
“Families are still hungry, and they’re actually eligible for the program,” a Louisiana policy analyst said.
A food bank in southern Louisiana said it “could not absorb that level of need” without the program working.
Five Million and Counting
Across the country, about 5 million people have lost food stamps since the law passed.
Scalise is the second most powerful Republican in the House. He decides what reaches the floor. If he keeps his seat, he keeps that power.

The Teacher Running Against Him
Lauren Jewett has taught kids with disabilities for 17 years. She put that job on hold to run.
99 cents of every dollar she has raised came from individual people. Three of every four of those dollars came in gifts under $200.
Her volunteers are knocking on doors in Scalise’s own district. Let’s help them reach every one before November 3.
