Wilton Simpson Is MAGA's Pay-To-Play Agriculture Commissioner.

Wilton Simpson's department paid a rancher nearly $10 million for a conservation easement. A few months later, that rancher gave his campaign $200,000.

Wilton Simpson runs Florida’s agriculture department like a business, his own. Public land money goes out one door, campaign checks come in the other.

His Department Paid A Rancher $10 Million. His Campaign Got $200,000 Back.

In 2025, Wilton Simpson’s agriculture department paid nearly $10 million to a cattle ranch called Siboney Ranch. The payment was for a conservation easement, a deal meant to keep that land protected.

A few months later, Siboney Ranch gave Simpson’s campaign $100,000. A trust tied to the same land deal gave another $100,000, the same day.

That’s pay-to-play, plain and simple. Even a Tallahassee watchdog group sees it: “They’re trying to buy access and influence,” said Ben Wilcox of Integrity Florida, “in the hope that they’ll receive favorable treatment.”

The Land Deal Isn’t The Only Time He’s Put Someone Else First.

In February 2025, Simpson ordered his department to scrub “Gulf of Mexico” from every rule, form, and map it controls. He called it the “Gulf of America” instead.

Most Floridians didn’t ask for this. A poll found 58 percent of Florida voters opposed the rename.

Simpson did it anyway. He’s reportedly eyeing a run for governor, and pleasing Trump was worth more to him than Florida’s own name for its own coastline.

He Studied How To Protect Land. Simpson Just Showed What He Does With It.

Joey Atkins has a master’s degree in environmental management. Before running for this office, he spent years working on environmental policy and legal aid, not land deals for insiders.

He wants to fight price gouging at the grocery store. He wants polluters to pay for their own cleanup, not taxpayers. He wants to protect Florida farmland instead of selling pieces of it off.

This isn’t only about one office in Florida. Republican officials nationwide are trading public land and public trust for campaign checks. Every state needs an Agriculture Commissioner who isn’t one of them.

Wilton Simpson turned a land protection deal into campaign cash. Every dollar for Joey Atkins pays for mail and ads that tell Florida exactly what its own Agriculture Commissioner has been doing with their land.
