On July 7th, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was killed by ICE agents in broad daylight in Houston, Texas.
This shouldn’t have happened, and this should never happen again. Point blank. Period.
Lorenzo’s life in the United States was the true embodiment of the American dream.
He was a hard worker who had been married to his wife for 35 years. He worked tirelessly to provide a future for his three children, who all went on to build successful careers, and he had just achieved his biggest dream of building a home of his own. A house he could finally live in, just like the hundreds he helped build for other families.
He had no criminal record and was close to finishing the long process of regularizing his immigration status. But because of the reckless, unchecked aggression driven by the Trump administration's immigration crackdown, federal agents stole his life.
To make this even more disturbing and twisted, DHS confirmed that Lorenzo wasn't even the intended target of their operation.
Which leaves us with a question. How many more innocent people are going to be killed on American soil by the United States government? How many more times are we going to let them get away with it?
The bloodshed has to stop.
We must collectively stand together right now. We need to organize, mobilize, and vote to elect leaders who will actually bring real oversight and hold DHS accountable for these systemic abuses.
