Community Unites Against Arrest Of High Schooler and More Terrible News For Trump
Republican throws fake town hall, huge protest against Trump, Warnock refuses to take the bait, and more
As we start another week of Trump’s absurd antics—this time peddling a QAnon claim that former President Joe Biden is a robot clone—I’m happy to share another edition of Great News with you today. Let’s jump in.
A huge group of community members showed up for a mile-long march, followed by a protest against Trump’s ICE yesterday in Milford, MA. Some of them had just graduated from high school, still wearing their caps and gowns. They were there to demonstrate, following the arrest of high school student Marcelo Gomes Da Silva.
The crowd chanted “hands off our kids,” while holding signs that read “free Marcelo,” and “stop kidnapping now.” Marcelo, who has lived in Massachusetts since he was 5, is an honor student with no criminal record.
MA Gov. Maura Healey is already involved, saying: “I’m demanding immediate answers from ICE about the arrest ... where he is and how his due process is being protected.”
We all know that Republicans have been told to not host town halls, because the response to them has been absolutely terrible. So now, they're staging so-called “town halls”—that are nothing more than private get-togethers.

Like GOP Rep. Nancy Mace’s closed-door event, held in a gated community. Even though it was a private function, she was still heavily criticized, and many people ended up walking out early.
KOCH SOCK PUPPET!
But GOP Rep. Nathaniel Moran took it a step further with his fake town hall in Texas. It was hosted by Americans for Prosperity, a group with strong ties to the Koch brothers. A huge red flag, obviously.
Video from the event shows an overly friendly crowd—in clear contrast to the brutal response he received at a public town hall around a month ago. I investigated further and found evidence that suggests the group screened attendees. What a sad joke.
I don’t know about you, but I’m sick and tired of this trash being spread about former President Joe Biden—like that pathetic book from Jake Tapper.
I don’t care what ridiculous rumors exist about Joe. What I do care about is the rampant corruption coming from the Trump regime.
Dem Sen. Raphael Warnock seems to agree with me. On Meet the Press this weekend, Warnock responded to a question about Biden and the 2024 campaign by stating: “Here's what we absolutely know about last year's election—it's over.” Yes, it is. And corporate media needs to stop constantly criticizing Biden as if he’s still in office.
Warnock continued: “I'm gonna spend all of my energy focused on the task in front of us ... the Republicans are trying to push forward this big ugly bill … at a time when Donald Trump’s tariff tax is literally raising the cost of groceries … it’s gonna rob people of the resources that they need … they’re literally trying to take healthcare away from children.”

Remember when Donald Trump was worried about our trade deficit? Yeah, that must have been days ago.
But anyhow, as I and others have pointed out, the tuition and other expenses that foreign students pay to study at places like Harvard is a major source of foreign exchange earnings. Last year, we got more than $56 billion in revenue from these students.
However, foreign students are not just a large current source of earnings; they have been a rapidly growing source. Here’s the picture since 2000.

Guatemalan immigrant in U.S. for 30 years arrested by federal agents
Juan Ramón Alegría Rodas is the 18th confirmed detainee in New Bedford since Jan. 20. He says he has been detained in a case of mistaken identity.

Rodas was arrested on Monday in the North End of New Bedford while on his way to pick up his daughter from school. On Tuesday, he called Patricia from the Plymouth County Correctional Facility, telling her that agents are mistakenly identifying him as José Chaclan Cienfuentes, a friend and former roommate whom Patricia said Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported in 2009. As a result, Rodas told Patricia, federal authorities are accusing Rodas of illegal re-entry after removal — a felony offense.
