The onetime chief of staff to Maryland's GOP ex-Governor Larry Hogan has died from a gunshot after a three-week manhunt for him ended in a shootout with federal agents. McGrath went on the run after failing to show in federal court in Baltimore for his trial on charges of fraud, theft, and falsifying records.

Trump arrives in New York for surrender, opposes TV court coverage
The indicted former president resisted the urge for a Mar-a-Lago showdown with authorities and flew to NYC, where his attorneys begged the judge overseeing his criminal case to ban cameras from the courtroom during the arraignment. They claimed that they're afraid the cameras will create a "circus-like atmosphere" and could contribute to unspecified "security concerns." Unfortunately, this means we'll get no perp walk, but we'll definitely get the "circus-like atmosphere" no matter what!

DeSantis signs permitless carry gun bill into law with little fanfare
As if the senseless, ceaseless bloodshed in American classrooms and streets wasn't horrific enough already, Florida's mini-Trump has now all but guaranteed more gun deaths by making it legal for people to walk around with firearms without so much as a permit or a lick of training. This is the GOP's vision of the future: a wild west where you can't even go to the store without seeing used car salesmen and real estate agents toting around enough weaponry to invade a small country and the leading cause of death being shot dead in a road rage incident.

Secret Service agents subpoenaed in Trump probe
In a clear sign that Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation into Donald Trump's illegal smuggling of classified documents to Mar-a-Lago is leaving no stone unturned, he has now ordered Secret Service agents connected to Trump to testify. One can only imagine what they saw and heard while protecting the most pathologically dishonest and criminal president in history.

Tesla ordered by jury to pay more than $3 million to Black ex-worker who endured racist abuse
Elon Musk has suffered yet another defeat as a San Francisco jury ordered his electric car company to pay $3 million in punitive damages and $175,000 in non-economic damages to Owen Diaz, a Black former elevator operator at the company’s factory in Fremont, California, after he endured a racially hostile work environment during his time at the company. Diaz has revealed that his Tesla colleagues used racial epithets to insult him as well as other Black employees, made him feel physically unsafe, told him to "go back to Africa," and scrawled racist graffiti on the walls. The horrifying environment is very on brand for Elon. He is, after all, the man who all-too-recently transformed Twitter into a cesspit of bigots, transphobes and Nazis.

Tennessee House speaker strips Democrats of committee roles after they peacefully protested for gun reform
For having the gall to attend a peaceful protest in support of saner gun laws in the wake of the tragic Nashville school shooting, two Democratic state representatives have been stripped of their committee assignments in a display of hack political retribution that qualifies as vindictive even by Republican standards. The punished lawmakers were showing solidarity with the hundreds of young students who marched on the capitol demanding commonsense gun reform, so it's clear this punishment is a warning that the demands of Gen Z should never be acknowledged or supported, lest they grow confident and start demanding other things...like healthcare, better wages, abortion rights, action on the housing crisis, all the things the GOP has worked so hard to keep out of reach of everyday Americans.
Heavily armed white man arrested on HBCU campus in North Carolina
Police discovered two handguns, two shotguns, one rifle, a crossbow, a machete, stun gun, hatchets, knives, choking devices, pepper spray, a blow dart gun, brass knuckles, and other weaponry in the vehicle of a white man who was arrested on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University, a historically Black university, after he made threats and grew violent. It doesn't take much imagination to figure out what he was planning — but thankfully, disaster was averted.
Elon Musk seeks to end $258 billion Dogecoin lawsuit
The Republican billionaire is desperately begging a judge to dismiss a massive $258 billion racketeering lawsuit that accuses him of using a pyramid scheme to inflate the price of the meme cryptocurrency "Dogecoin" by 36,000% and then letting it crash. In this case, there doesn't seem to be much to prove. Elon wasn't very subtle about what he was doing. He manipulates markets and screws people over for a living — it's how he got rich in the first place.
Democrats target 31 GOP-held seats in aggressive campaign for House majority
Democrats have laid out an aggressive map for clawing back control of Congress. The seats in question are a blend of ultra-competitive districts including the seat held by world champion Texas Hold'em player and noted bare-knuckle boxer George Santos, areas President Biden won, and conservative-leaning districts where the party sees an extreme and vulnerable GOP incumbent, such as gun freak Rep. Lauren Boebert who barely held her Colorado seat last.

The crucial Supreme Court election in Wisconsin is TODAY, and the stakes COULD NOT be any higher. Progressive voters have a chance to flip control of the state Supreme Court and help restore equitable access to reproductive healthcare. Securing a liberal majority on the state’s high court could spell the end of the current, near-total abortion ban that’s been on the books since 1849. And since Republican gerrymandering in Wisconsin is some of the most egregious in the country, this may be our best chance at restoring reproductive rights for marginalized people currently being denied equitable access to care — not to mention protecting our elections from any GOP shenanigans in 2024.
While progressives have managed to deliver a string of recent statewide abortion-rights victories in the wake of last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade, we must be steadfast in our pursuit to restore and preserve access to abortion care to the millions of folks living in Republican-dominated red states. The battle for reproductive healthcare is raging, and we must stand ready to fight.
