An Unfathomable Betrayal—By the President of the United States and the Richest Man in America
Donald Trump. Elon Musk. We haven’t encountered that level of traitorousness in a long time, if ever. Is that why it’s so hard for so many people to acknowledge the treason staring us in the face?
Good morning. Here is my Friday ramble.

And here is a transcript, edited for clarity:
Good morning. I’m recording this on Wednesday morning, October 21st. I’ve been thinking about this since I wrote Tuesday’s piece about Russia taking over the United States, and Donald Trump fully throwing his support publicly now behind Putin: Why it is that so many people cannot accept what’s happening, cannot see what’s happening, seem to be in denial about what’s happening?
And I think part of the reason is, here in the United States, we’ve been very lucky. We have not dealt with betrayal on this level before.
One of my lines on Twitter that I used to say quite a bit was, “The traitors are easy to spot.” And I picked that word, traitors, for a variety of reasons. First, because they are traitors, in the sense that they’re betraying the country and American democracy. Also, because the word is subjective. “Are you a traitor? If I think you are, then you are.” But I never really thought about it deeply before.
Usually, when a traitor emerges in a country, it’s some spy thing, right? Like Aldrich Ames. I mean, could people even pick him out of a lineup, or acknowledge what exactly he was doing? There was that guy, Robert Hanssen, who shared information with the Soviets. He was part of that Opus Day network in DC, by the way. You have the Rosenbergs—usually it’s stuff like that. It’s something in the margins, something in the shadows, something that’s difficult to grasp.
Even somebody like Edward Snowden, who took all these secrets and hightailed it to Russia and tried to make us that he was some sort of hero? That’s still pretty opaque. It’s hard to wrap your brain around what exactly it was that was going on there—there’s information, there’s data, documents are being stolen, but what’s going on, really?
It just doesn’t happen that we have betrayal this out in the open, to the level of just flat-out treason, which is what we’re seeing here. This business with Ukraine and Russia and Starlink is—I mean, it’s treasonous. Elon Musk, according to the Telegraph, and now also confirmed by the Wall Street Journal, floated the idea to Trump: “Hey, let’s just fuck the Ukrainians by turning the Starlink off. Heh heh. What do you think?” And Trump, of course, said, “Great, Putin will love that. Let’s do it.” And then they did it, and people died. Our allies in Ukraine—dead.
Not only is Russia our enemy historically, but Russia is actively helping Iran attack our troops. So, like, this is treason. We are at war, and they are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. That’s what’s happening now. Like, this is not something we see every day in the United States, thank God.
And when we do have traitors, like I said, it’s usually something quiet, it’s something in the shadows, it’s something in the background. It’s not the freaking president and the wealthiest man in the country joining forces to fuck us all.
But that’s what is happening now. That’s what’s been happening, but now it’s very, very hard for them to deny it.
The question is: What are we going to do about this? How do we handle something like this? And: Are the American people strong enough to do what’s going to need to be done to right the ship? And that’s the part that I don’t have that much confidence in.
I’ve said before, I’m very worried for the midterms. I’m very worried because I know they’re going to cheat, I know they’re going to fuck with it, they’re going to throw everything they have at screwing with the results, to make the results seem illegitimate. They’re going to say that there were Russian parts in the voting machines and therefore the vote is bad—even as they’re fluffing Vladimir Putin, they’re going to say this with a straight face. They’re going to do everything that they can possibly think to do to stay in power.
Even if that doesn’t come to pass, even if the Democrats do win and take the House and take the Senate and give us back control of Congress—I mean, are Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries—Jared Kushner’s bud—are they really going to have what it takes to save us from this mess? And I don’t know what the answer is about that.
But the farther this goes, the more open the treason becomes, the harsher the punishments must be. And this isn’t me being some kind of draconian dickhead. I’m just saying that historically, in order for us to get out of the mess, we need to really repudiate and deter future treason.
Because right now, what’s happened? Everybody has seen that, “Hey, if we treason with Russia, we get a lot of money, we get a lot of hits on social media, and we get a lot of power. So why not treason with Russia?” Right? I mean, a lot of people are thinking this way. We need to deter that. We need to make it abundantly clear that cavorting with the enemy like that brings about outcomes that are not something to be desired. We need Nuremberg trials with Nuremberg outcomes.
And we need to be comfortable with that. Because if that’s not going to happen, not only is the country fucked, our standing in the world is never going to come back—ever. The Europeans are never going to trust us again. Who are we to say we are the leaders of the free world, when our actual leaders are literally simping for Vladimir Putin (and also for Netanyahu, who’s another fucking bloodythirsty asshole)?
If we’re going to come back from this, it’s going to require us to do things that we’re not comfortable with. And my hope is that people will come to, and they will realize the magnitude and the scope of the treason here—the betrayal, the traitorousness, the treachery of these people.
It’s not something we’re accustomed to. It’s not something we see in the United States. This is something that happens in other countries, in lesser countries, in weak countries. It doesn’t happen here.
Well, it’s happened here. We’re dealing with it now. We’re seeing the results of it. And if we want to take our country back—Isn’t that what Trump likes to say? “We’re going to take the country back!”—if we’re going to take the country back, it’s going to require Herculean efforts. And it’s going to require us to do things that we’re not, as a nation, that comfortable with.
And I don’t know if we’re going to get there. I just don’t know. I hope that we are, and I hope that we can.
But the first step is to go out and vote, in unvanquishable numbers. We need to vote in such numbers that screwing with it is going to be hard, if not impossible. And then we’ll see what happens.
But I’m telling you right now, these people are traitors. They’re so disgustingly obvious, egregious traitors that I really do think that’s the problem. I think they’re so over the top, so loud in their treason, that people just can’t fathom that American citizens would do something so fucking evil.
Between Trump and Musk, we’re well over a million people dead, needlessly, because of decisions that they made. And that number is only going get higher and higher and higher.
I don’t want to be a part of that. I don’t want to be a party to that. We need to get rid of these people—legally, through the courts. But until we make the hard choices that need to be made, nothing’s going change. Because what’s happened now is, the rewards of the treachery and the betrayal and the treason are, to a lot of amoral people, looking like well worth the risk. And that cannot be. That cannot stand. It cannot be. And when we do that, that’s when we shall prevail.
