Punishing Poverty: The Billionaire Court’s War on the Homeless (+ Podcast)

Supreme Court Rules Cities Can Punish People For Being Homeless Even When Shelters Are Full — ACLU

How can one person make a difference when Epstein Class billionaires have packed the courts and punish those in need? Listen to the inspiring story of Pat LaMarche and the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project.

Trump’s billionaire-packed Supreme Court issued a chilling blueprint for institutional cruelty. They ruled in Grants Pass v. Johnson that cities can effectively criminalize the act of being homeless. Trump appointed justice’s ignored Justice Sotomayor’s haunting question: “Where are they supposed to go?” This decision marks a dark transition from addressing poverty to punishing survival.

Pat LaMarche shows how each of us in their own way can make a difference. The Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project is a unique way to show people who are unhoused that they are loved. It gives you the opportunity to knit, crochet, quilt, or loom a creation for display. After the display ends, your donated blanket will be gently folded and delivered to persons and families in need.

Pat is an award-winning broadcaster, journalist, advocate and author. Following Pat’s first book, Left Out in America, chronicling her 8000 mile journey across the U.S. staying in homeless shelters and on the street, Pat became a shelter director caring directly for those experiencing housing and food insecurity.

Pat has a particular interest on the far ends of the homeless spectrum—elder orphans and unhoused babies. Having authored more than a dozen books dealing with poverty and human struggle, Pat still works as a freelance journalist. She is also the founder of the Homeless Remembrance Blanket Project — honoring those who die on the street by providing handmade blankets to elders, families, children and veterans who struggle to survive. #memorialblanket

For Whom the Bell Tolls

For Whom the Bell Tolls” refers to a famous phrase from John Donne’s poetry, popularized by Ernest Hemingway’s 1940 novel about the Spanish Civil War, signifying human interconnectedness and the idea that every death diminishes all of humanity because we are all part of mankind. The phrase “Ask not for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee” reminds us that mortality is universal and one person’s loss affects everyone.

TakeAway: Do some good in your own way. Maybe it is stitching a blanket for a homeless person you will never meet.
