📢🎙️ Power to the People: We support Ukraine, not Donald TrumpPeople Power is standing with Ukraine, condemning Trump, Vance, and Steve Witkoff’s alignment with Russian interests, and reaffirming America’s commitment to democracy.People Power United is a reader-supported publication. Dear President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian leaders and soldiers, and the resilient people of Ukraine,I write to you not as someone speaking for a nation, but as one voice among millions of Americans who refuse to be silent while our government fails to uphold the values we claim to stand for. Democracy. Dignity. Freedom. The United States once served as a guardian of these ideals—but today, some of our political leaders have abandoned them. For that, I offer my deepest apology. I am outraged by the disrespectful, degrading treatment you endured from President Trump and Vice President JD Vance during your March visit to the White House—and the painful disrespect they’ve continued to show you every day since. Their conduct does not reflect who we are as a people. Nearly 80% of those who call America home did not vote for Trump, and we reject his cruel isolationism, his capitulation to autocrats, and his willingness to sacrifice global democracy for personal ego and political gain. To make matters worse, some in America’s political class—including members of the Republican Party and a handful of complicit Democrats—have chosen to elevate Donald Trump who, while elected President, is no leader and is a 34-time convicted felon—an insurrectionist, a serial liar, a fraudster, and a man who mocks the disabled, assaulter, defames others, and insults our troops, members of Congress, and fellow Americans on a daily basis. This is not leadership. It is tyranny. And yet the danger does not stop with Trump himself. It extends to the people who whisper in his ear. One of the most disturbing examples is the role of his longtime adviser and real estate ally, Steve Witkoff. According to Daily Mail reporting from this week, Witkoff in “A leaked transcript has revealed how the U.S. Special Envoy coached a high-ranking Kremlin aide on how Vladimir Putin should flatter Donald Trump and praise his peace deal in Gaza, in a bid to achieve the Ukraine ceasefire.“ (Daily Mail). The peace plan is a capitulation to Putin by allowing Russia to keep most of the Ukrainian territory it invaded. This is an appalling betrayal of the United States. Anyone representing the United States—whether formally or informally—should advance America’s interests, not those of a foreign authoritarian state actively committing war crimes. No American should ever help Russia strategize how to win a war built on occupation and terror. That is not diplomacy. It is disloyalty. I also want to acknowledge our own failings as Americans. For too long, many of us took our democracy for granted. We failed to vote in the numbers required to safeguard freedom. We failed to hold our leaders accountable. And now, at the moment you need steadfast partnership most, the United States is displaying weakness, selfishness, and shameful moral collapse. Trump’s childish bullying—his insults, his pushing, his refusal to show even basic dignity to our allies—is not American leadership. True leadership is courage. True leadership is integrity. True leadership stands shoulder-to-shoulder with people fighting for their survival against dictatorship and imperial violence—not with Vladimir Putin. But hear me clearly: millions of Americans stand with you. We reject Trump. We reject Putin. We reject every enabler, apologist, and collaborator working against Ukrainian freedom and global democracy. I recommit my solidarity, my voice, and my activism to Ukraine’s victory and the global fight against fascism. I will:
Your struggle is our struggle. Your fight for freedom is a fight for democracy’s future everywhere. And millions of us will not turn our backs. Not now. Not ever. A friendly reminder — we’re a community that believes in the power of change and puts in the work to make it happen. It might not seem like much to spend five minutes signing a petition, writing a letter, or making a call, but when we act together, those small efforts add up. That’s how we hold our leaders accountable to the will of the people. Today’s Calls to Action
Together, we can protect and empower those we love, champion our rights, freedoms, and democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people’s will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
