Represent Justice: Have you watched Sansón and Me?

It’s been three days since the television debut of Sansón and Me on Independent Lens, and we can’t think of a reason why you shouldn’t check it out this weekend!

The film is a story a decade in the making, which began when filmmaker Rodrigo Reyes served as a court interpreter in rural California for the then 19-year old Sansón Noé Andrade, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was sentenced to two life sentences without parole. Through letters and visits, Sansón shared with Rodrigo his story of navigating loss in his family, a lack of support, and the harsh realities of the justice system.

Sansón and Me won Best Film at the Sheffield DocFest after premiering at Tribeca in 2022. It resonated with audiences and critics alike, making it onto the IDA and SFFILM Doc Stories shortlists.

This year, we’ve been using the film to drive conversations about how to address the harm mass incarceration brings to young people and immigrant communities, and to bring the healing power of telling your story to others like Sansón.

So if you haven’t already, check out Sansón and Me and let us know what you think!

Have a great weekend!

P.S.
Send Sansón a postcard to let him know what you thought of his story. Complete a short form with your message, and we will work with the nonprofit Ameelio to print and mail a postcard from you to Sansón.
